Stick to baseball, 11/23/19.

For ESPN+ subscribers, I discussed the baseball case for trading Mookie Betts, and looked at the Yasmani Grandal and Will Smith signings. I also held a Klawchat on Thursday.

Over at Paste, I reviewed Watergate, a great and well-timed new two-player game where you play either as Nixon or as the journalists trying to uncover the scandal. For Ars Technica, I reviewed the social deduction game Game of Thrones Oathbreaker, a game with team & individual components that I think is too unbalanced.

My new book, The Inside Game, will be out on April 21, 2020, and you can pre-order it now. Stand by for news on store events, including Politics & Prose in DC and Midtown Scholar in Harrisburg.

I’ll send out the latest edition of my free email newsletter later today, talking a little about the philosophical debates I’m having with myself over this year’s Hall of Fame ballot.

My friend Jessica Scarane is mounting a primary challenge to Delaware Senator Chris Coons; Coons is a centrist Democrat who, among other things, thought Nats fans were wrong to boo President Trump, and who regularly works with the GOP. You can donate to Jess’s campaign on her website.

And now, the links…

  1. That car seat piece was an eye-opener. And to think I’ve probably burned thousands on various carseats for my daughters thru the years.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just have a much simpler overall tax day instead of rearranging deck chairs? The govt already knows what we make and should pay. Let’s just do what nearly every other country does. The crazy convoluted tax day is entirely American. It’s dumb. That in itself would increase revenue and there are a zillion examples of this happening every year in other countries.

Also Democrats are so dumb. It’s astonishing how dumb they are. Why not impeach on Emoluments and show how it wastes tax payer dollars. It’s public knowledge. Then you being alone dolts like Rand Paul who says, gee taxes are a bad thing to waste! Burn him. Instead we get a witness who is very dicey, and the R’s showed that Sondland, aside from him opening statement, is entirely unreliable. Pass in house fail in senate and meanwhile Democrats hope to nominate a Biden or what-appears-like-neo-con mayor pete. That’s trump for four more years.

    • The Ukraine call is the correct issue to impeach him on IMO because of its basic transactional nature. Emoluments may have made Trump impeachable from day one, but his supporters more or less suspended the rule in electing him despite his open refusal to divest. They know and don’t care that he’s profiting from the office.

  3. Isn’t that car seat piece parody? I sure hope so.

    • My guess is yes, given the following disclaimer that appears at the end of the post.

“NOTE: In case it isn’t obvious, and OMG stop the planet because the fact that a disclaimer is even needed makes me want to get off it, this is satire.”

Mark, I envy you–you surely have wasted less time than me arguing with anti-vaxxers.

    • It was just a “Car seats cause autism” from being perfect.
