I’ll be on ESPNEWS today at 2:40 pm EST and on ESPN Radio’s Baseball Tonight sometime between 10 and 11 pm EST.
Also, I’ve got a new blog post up on ESPN.com (for Insiders) on interesting non-tenders, as well as Colby Lewis, Jason Kendall, and the Rule 5 draft.
Keith, if the Sox sign Chapman, would he be a good enough prospect to justify trading Kelly?
Keith, a more specific version of the above-question. Do the Lackey and Cameron signings, coupled with the rumored interest in Chapman potentially indicate that the Sox may be willing to move Buchholz and Kelly (and others) in a package for Adrian Gonzalez or Miguel Cabrera? I understand that Cameron is a defensive upgrade over Bay, but it seems like they are giving up a lot of offense there, and I’d be surprised if they aren’t looking to get it back somewhere.
And another question related to the potential Boston-SD trade: Why is Ellsbury considered to be a big addition to the package by some reporting on it? Decent defensive CF, little power, almost certain to get overpaid in arbitration next year. Michael Bourn isn’t super popular in trade discussions, is he?
K-Law…any recos for eats in Cincinnati?
thanks and happy holidays.
SA: Sorry, not a one. Haven’t been there since 1999, and that was only for a single game at the old park.
Dave, Bourn was the key player in the Lidge trade a couple of years ago, so I guess he has some trade popularity (and probably has a little more after this past season). And while Ellsbury’s numbers are more similar to Bourns than I would have thought (before I looked them up), he is a year younger and has a career OPS+ that is 17 points higher, so I would presume he would have somewhat more trade value than Bourn. Still a valid point though, perhaps you could point it out to certain Boston sportswriters who think trading Ellsbury in a Gonzalez deal would be a huge mistake.
