  1. Keith– thanks for grouping the radio hits in one spot. I will try to work your spots in between shifts of listening to Francesa declare Mariano Rivera’s career officially over.

Also- unrelated item. Bought a used copy of The Invisible Man to read on the train the other day and my particular copy had an introduction written by a biographer (and son) of Wells that included the following, ummm, sugar-coated nostalgia:

“Happenstance, and a certain talent for complicating his private life, had landed him a small army of dependents….”

I think Shawn Kemp just found his obit writer.

  2. A whole chat with no food or lit questions? Wow.

  3. 17k no-hitter? Complete waste of talent. You know how good he be coming out of the ‘Pen?

  4. I know that you are the inventor of Zantacular, but I would like to give the title to Matt Lindstrom, because I really need medication to watch the 9th inning of close Marlins games.

  5. This world needs FJM back. It also needs a new site called Fire Steve Phillips. I think the bottom of the 3rd inning of the Sunday night telecast has to have set some sort of record for most misinformation spewed by the color analysts in one half inning. Between Morgan’s comments on non PED users being hurt salary-wise by PED users and Phillips’s comments about the Dodgers now having money (from savings on Manny’s salary) to spend on a pitcher, I had to stop watching. While Phillips is technically correct that will save some money, since most of Manny’s salary for this year is deferred, the Dodgers are only saving about $3M (50/162 of $10M), which most likely will not be enough to get a quality pitcher from a team that is selling.

  6. The Marlins announcers today were trying to tell everyone that Dan Uggla was ok because he was hitting the ball hard, and the average was not worrying. Which is true, his BABIP is very low. Then they came out with this little ditty

“You know that’s why AVG is an overused stat and doesn’t tell the whole story. Another stat like that is on base percentage you know, it doesn’t show who is driving in the runs when it matters”

The stat they used to show who was most valuable in the NL so far, RBI’s that put your team ahead.

And yes, Phillips is horrible too.

  7. Infinite Sportswriter Theorem (Link to the right somewhere) is a solid replacement for FJM. Not nearly as bad, but it fills the void.

  8. Not nearly as GOOD*…

  9. Thanks BSK. I’ll check it out.

  10. Inexplicable Player Promotions of the Year, candidates 1 and 2: Mesoraco to high-A, Kozma to AA.

Neither of these hold a candle to: Matt LaPorta – promoted to sit the bench

  11. Marco – I’ll see your Matt LaPorta and raise you a Brandon Wood.

  12. Anyone have a link to the archive of the 5/8 chat? It’s not on the normal archive page: http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/story?page=ChatArchiveLaw

  13. Well, after manually changing the last two digits of the URL ~100 times, I finally found it:

    http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=26327

I also discovered that just about everyone (including “Major League Gamers”, whatever those are) has their own ESPN.com chat.
