Draft videos!

Looks like several of the videos I shot of prospects for this year’s Rule 4 Draft are up:

RHP Mike Leake
LHP Matt Purke
LHP Cameron Coffey
CF Everett Williams
RHP Shelby Miller

I’ll throw up a new post whenever I see more of these videos go up. Also, I wrote about Brett Anderson, Tyson Ross, Brett Hunter, and Hector Rondon yesterday and will be writing about Dayan Viciedo and Aaron Poreda tonight.

Comments

  1. Keith, will you be coming to the greater Atlanta area at all this year?

  2. Keith, I know what the rule 4 and drafts are but what are the other three?

  3. Buster Olney has it from a scout who he says is “not one for hyperbole” that Strasburg is throwing legitimate triple digit fastballs with good movement; is this what you’ve seen as well? If so, is there ANY question about whether he’ll be the number 1 pick in the draft outside of money?

  4. Keith, I see echoes of Godard in your camera work.

Jeremy: I just loved the Sidd Finch comp in that article.

  5. I’m not a scout, but I like Leake’s delivery the most of the group. His little “glove drop” thing looks a lot like Brad Penny’s first move.

  6. Keith,

How do scouts learn when college pitchers will be pitching? I ask because as a student at Long Beach State I want to see Strasburg pitch but I do not want to make the drive down to San Diego unless I have to. SDSU has an away game at Blair Field on 4/7 should I just hope he starts that game? You all must have a harder job timing your visits or you stay for a greater number of games…

    Thanks

  7. Jonathan: Yes, at some point.

Ryan: There are no Rule 1-3 drafts. There are, however, Rules 1, 2, and 3. Rule 4 defines the June draft, Rule 5 defines the December one.

Jeremy: I will see Strasburg next week. I have heard what Buster has heard, but have not seen it live.

Dan: The best starter on a college team nearly always starts every Friday night (or Thursday if that’s the series opener). Scouts, and pseudo-scouts like me, call coaches or SIDs to get information like rotations.

  8. Keith-

Great advice..Got to see Strasburg tonight. Think it was 14Ks in 7 innings..he got hit a little bit and dinged his leg in the 7th sliding into first to beat out a the runner on a ball he fielded but kept pitching. I counted at least 8 radar guns. I sat behind one and he was conistantly at 97-98 with his fastball and his breaking ball was at 91-92 all night. He also threw a couple pitches in the high 70s low 80s that just buckled some knees. They were cheating fastball on him and then they would get junk. He did balk in a run. And the Ump was not giving him anything on the inside corners for his breaking ball on lefties. It was a neat experience. I am excited to see him mature. I am sorry I missed the glory days at CSULB of a few years back.
