Clearly we’ll be talking all day about how the Randy Wolf trade has moved the Astros into contention for . . . fifth place in NL Central. Now if we could just find an aging bat who can’t field we’d be right in the hunt for fourth. I’ve got Ed Wade fever!
I know White Sox fans are lunatics, so it only makes sense that they can’t see that Ramirez is a mediocre player. But come on, guys – 8 walks this season! Once he stops seeing decent pitches he’s the next Jeff Francoeur, if he’s lucky.
Windier, White Sox fans aren’t lunatics. They just don’t like it when everyone doesn’t like their favorite players. This is not a White Sox fan thing. This is a baseball fan thing. A human thing.
I like vanilla ice cream. Come on, how can you not like vanilla ice cream? It’s clearly better than chocolate. Chocolate is the popular choice, but vanilla goes with pumpkin pie. It’s no contest.
See? The premise works for just about anything. Say something negative about something that someone is passionate about and they’ll defend it to the death. Human nature, nothing more.
Oh right, why I came here: Keith, you mentioned a handful of names from the ’08 draft that should crack next year’s top 100 prospect list, but you only named one of the Beckham’s. Two-part question:
Brian: if vanilla ice cream had a sub-.330 deliciousness percentage, and you were trying to insist to me that it was amazingly delicious in the face of statistical evidence, I’d call you a lunatic. Subjective taste preference isn’t the same as trying to push Ramirez as a really good player in the face of statistical evidence that says he has mediocre range in the field and doesn’t take walks.
True, but my issue is with calling all fans of vanilla ice cream lunatics simply because they don’t like when non-fans of vanilla ice cream make fun of it. Because I would bet that if you told a fan of chocolate ice cream that his flavor sucks, he’d be just as passionate.
My point was that saying White Sox fans are lunatics because they defend Alexei Ramirez is unfair. If Alexei was on the Royals, Royals fans would be defending him too. Does that mean THEY’RE lunatics? No. It just means they’re human. Kind of like protecting the herd.
Just read your chat wrap.
I would not recommend eating at Binion’s. The view from the Steakhouse is nice, but the food is terrible. The Coffeeshop isn’t that great anymore. The place has gone downhill since the Binion family lost control.
I do enjoy Vic and Anthony’s at the Golden Nugget. It is a chain steakhouse, but it is one of my favorite resturants.
The persistent “Thank You For Smoking” references on the ice cream are much appreciated.
Keith, has the Cardinals’ system really improved that much over the past year that it’s borderline top 5 as you alluded to in the chat? Many Cards’ fans have started to talk up the system over the past year (primarily on blogs), but I always assume they are being typical fans and sporting rose colored glasses.
Keith- Thomas Keller has a Bouchon in Las Vegas. I have not been to the one in Vegas but I have been to the original Napa location a few times.
It is a no miss absolutely must visit restaurant. The food lies between brasserie and haute cuisine, but the execution is flawless. Try and go twice so that the second time you can order the Boudain Blanc without feeling like an idiot.
The prime rib I had at Binion’s Ranch Steakhouse was the best piece of beef I’ve ever had. My girlfriend liked the chicken-fried lobster, but didn’t think it was worth the hype. The onion soup was very tasty and not at all salty as many restaurants suffer from. Girlfriend loved the lobster bisque (I’m not big on shellfish, so my opinion is not offered).

Upper Class Twit of the Year – prolly my favorite sketch. Now I am going to have to bust out my dvds when i get home. Thanks Keith.

1. Which one did you mean?
2. Why not the other?
Okay so I know the answer to the 1st one. So why not Gordon?
Brian, perhaps because he has to prove he is better than Chris Getz first. And way to prove White Sox fans aren’t lunatics. Hey, I can be snarky!!!
