Pittsburgh radio tomorrow.

I just checked my ESPN mailbag, and the one new message was addressed, “dear mr gammons.” How flattering.

Anyway, I’ll be on ESPN 1250 AM in Pittsburgh tomorrow morning at 10:40 am with Joe Starkey.

Comments

  1. Oh, Peter Gammons…is he super-traditional when it comes to writing and talking about baseball? Or has he embraced some of the modern changes (blogs, sabermetrics, etc.)? It seems like he’s just a bit cooler than some of the older, traditional guys.

  2. I think Gammons has recognized the importance of the new-school, objective approach to analysis, and incorporated into his own analysis relatively well. He has lashed out from time to time, seemingly frustrated with some of the StatsNouveau crowd, but he’s always seemed like a perfect bridge between CrankyJournalists and PeopleWhoKnowWhatTheyAreTalkingAbout. Plus, Gammons is just awesome, so he gets a lifetime pass. He could take a dump on Rob Neyer’s head on national TV, and I’d find a way to rationalize it. I suppose it’s fair to say that I am a Gammons Apologist.

  3. I’m watching the Yankees-Rays game and I wonder if you think Edwin Jackson would make a great power reliever? Great fastball and slider but an inability to locate. He looks athletic enough to deal with 50-60 appearances a year. I guess Tampa’s needs dictate roles, but Jackson seems a little overmatched as a starter.

  4. One of my favorite things about Gammons is that, even after watching a lifetime of baseball, you can still feel his excitement when he writes about watching young guys like Johnny Cueto and Henry Rodriguez.
