Life imitates art.

U.S.: ‘Demonic’ militants sent women to bomb markets in Iraq:

Two mentally disabled women were strapped with explosives Friday and sent into busy Baghdad markets, where they were blown up by remote control, a top Iraqi government official said.

This bears a disturbing resemblance to the main plot point of Conrad’s The Secret Agent, except that in Conrad’s book, Verloc doesn’t necessarily intend for the mentally disabled character to die.

  1. Well, you know, at least it shows the terrorists have a sense of humor…

  2. Drew,
What exactly is funny about killing dozens of people? I fail to see the sense of humor of strapping women suffering from Down Syndrome with explosives, ball bearings, screws and nails and forcing them to kill. Perhaps you should reevaluate your idea of humor.

  3. I’m sure that someone in the Iraqi government has read the book.

  4. Francis,

No, nothin is funny about dozens of people being blown up, but I don’t want to think about the pain thier families are going through, or the twisted thoughts of the guys that like doing this.

I do believe, however, that since no one here is directly affected, it would be okay to make a dark, dry joke. Aren’t you old enough to know that life is at its core a pretty cruel, humorless thing. I just try to amuse myself a little.

No offense, buddy, I’m just insensative.

Besides, Keith will likely view it as beyond the pale and delete it, if only so people don’t get upset and start sometihng like this.
