I blame Twitter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Paste, I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/games\/splendor-duel-review\/\">reviewed Splendor Duel and Botanik<\/a>, two new small-box two-player games from the publisher Space Cowboys. Splendor Duel is a strictly two-player spinoff of the wonderful game Splendor, adding direct player interaction and special powers on the cards that make it more than two-player solitaire, which can be true of the original.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I sent out another issue of <a href=\"https:\/\/tinyletter.com\/keithlaw\">my free email newsletter<\/a> last week. The report also questions whether the authors of the <em>Times<\/em> article misquoted some sources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A sheriff in a rural county in northern Minnesota has been accused of misusing corporate funds given to his office, arresting protesters against a water pipeline on tar sands in the county, and now <a href=\"https:\/\/truthout.org\/articles\/sheriff-retaliates-against-lawyers-scrutinizing-arrests-of-water-protectors\/\">retaliating against lawyers seeking to subpoena him<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The head of the Autism Science Foundation writes about the need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spectrumnews.org\/opinion\/viewpoint\/its-time-to-embrace-profound-autism\/\">recognize profound autism as a distinct diagnosis from or within that of autism spectrum disorder<\/a>, arguing that the people advocating for autistic rights represent just one type of autism diagnosis.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The most likely GOP nominee for President in 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/11\/25\/trump-nick-fuentes-ye-kanye\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hosted white nationalist antisemite Nick Fuentes at Mar-a-Lago this week<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2022\/nov\/21\/twitter-anti-vax-health-misinformation\">Anti-vax accounts are pretending to be legitimate<\/a> by buying the blue check mark, allowing them to spread misinformation more widely, as Twitter appears to have given up on moderating content on its site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They\u2019re also pushing a bullshit documentary called <em>Died Suddenly<\/em> that claims many people died suddenly after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine \u2013 some of who are, in fact, not dead \u2013 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/health-63719246\">are harassing those people\u2019s loved ones online<\/a>, claiming they\u2019re part of some sort of cover-up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This spike in militant anti-vaccine activity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2022\/11\/24\/covid-disruptions-rising-anti-vaccine-activism-linked-growing-measles-threat\">is leading to rises in measles cases<\/a>, as measles is extremely contagious but depends on a pool of unvaccinated hosts, since the MMR vaccine is one of the most effective we have.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/11\/20\/former-twitter-employees-horrified-by-musk-reinstating-trump-account\/\">some former Twitter employees expressed their dismay<\/a> at Twitter\u2019s decision to reinstate twice-impeached former President Trump\u2019s account. Of course, there are a lot of former Twitter employees these days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <em>New Republic<\/em> examines <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/169112\/elon-musk-anti-trans-twitter-john-br\">Elon Musk\u2019s implied anti-trans agenda<\/a>, given his moves so far.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <em>Washington Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2022\/11\/22\/dril-musk-twitter-future\/\">interviewed dril about the state of Twitter<\/a>. I admit it wasn\u2019t quite as funny as I\u2019d hoped it would be.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <em>Atlantic <\/em>wins for the best headline of the week, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2022\/11\/elon-musk-donald-trump-twitter\/672195\/\">Trump\u2019s Terrifically Stupid Return to Twitter<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Georgetown history professor Thomas Zimmer posted an interesting if disturbing thread on <a href=\"https:\/\/threadreaderapp.com\/thread\/1593636623211630593.html\">Musk\u2019s lurch to the right and his embrace of an anti-democratic worldview<\/a>, arguing as well that Twitter\u2019s demise will be bad for democracy across the globe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Christian (Baptist) preacher in Washington state said the massacre of five LGBTQ+ people at a club in Colorado Springs was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/onlysky.media\/hemant-mehta\/christian-hate-preacher-aaron-thompson-club-q-shooting-good-thing\/\">a good thing<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>And it\u2019s a vicious cycle, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/columnist\/2022\/11\/22\/colorado-springs-shooting-lgbtq-club-shows-power-hate\/10754537002\/\">the flood of anti-LGBTQ+ hate speech coming from the right leads to more violence<\/a>, which spurs on more hate speech, and so on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The same far-right is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/93avba\/colorado-shooting-club-q-richard-fierro\">now attacking the hero<\/a> who stopped the Club Q shooter, calling him a \u201cgroomer\u201d and a slur for gay men, led by the same troll who started the bogus Pizzagate conspiracy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Republicans are now trying to pass laws <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/public-citizen\/republicans-next-anti-democratic-goal-is-entrenching-climate-denial-59c08a47a231\">restricting investment firms from pursuing climate change-friendly policies<\/a>, like divesting in fossil fuel producers, calling them \u201canti-boycott\u201d laws.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Government officials and candidates have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensforethics.org\/reports-investigations\/crew-reports\/government-officials-and-candidates-made-500-visits-to-trump-properties\/\">visited Trump\u2019s properties over 500 times<\/a>, even continuing to do so in the wake of the January 6<sup>th<\/sup> insurrection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <em>Post<\/em>\u2019s Philip Bump argues that the Supreme Court has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/11\/22\/supreme-court-conservatives-alito-roberts\/\">lost any justification for its claims of being above the partisan fray<\/a>, with the news that Samuel Alito leaked a decision back in 2014 just the latest in a series of moves showing how polluted the institution has become.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meanwhile, Amy Coney Barrett, who isn\u2019t even one of the two most conservative justices on the court, has yet to recuse herself from a case involving LGBTQ+ rights <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/law\/2022\/nov\/21\/amy-coney-barrett-people-of-praise-lgbtq-303-creative-v-elenis\">given her own membership in a religious group that practices the same sort of discrimination<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The BBC reports on the kenari nut, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-63713096\">a crop that may be about to boom as a possible dairy substitute<\/a>, while also potentially driving economic growth in Indonesia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Pittsburgh Post-Gazette<\/em> co-owner Allan Block and his wife Susan responded to a question about why he won\u2019t settle with striking workers <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PGHGuild\/status\/1594751567076495360?s=20&amp;t=3S-pY5qC-gYMABgOYqp3qQ\">with a \u201cfuck you\u201d and a slap<\/a> (video included).
