The cover story in the latest issue of the American Psychological Association\u2019s <em>Monitor on Psychology <\/em>looks at the importance of such care and the role that psychologists should play in it.<\/li><li>In the <em>New Yorker<\/em>, Andrew Marantz asks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2022\/07\/04\/does-hungary-offer-a-glimpse-of-our-authoritarian-future\">if Hungary under its tyrannical leader Viktor Orb\u00e1n<\/a> gives us an idea of what our authoritarian future might look like.<\/li><li>Also in the <em>New Yorker<\/em>, Jia Tolentino writes that we are not going back to pre-<em>Roe<\/em>, but to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2022\/07\/04\/we-are-not-going-back-to-the-time-before-roe-we-are-going-somewhere-worse\">some place much worse<\/a>.<\/li><li>After the SCOTUS ruling dismantling women\u2019s reproductive rights came down, right-wing influencers <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/dfrlab\/us-right-wing-influencers-stoke-fears-of-left-wing-mass-violence-after-supreme-court-ruling-on-c1d6416efc2b\">spread rumors of impending violence<\/a> from those angered by the ruling, including the supposed activist group Jane\u2019s Revenge. The violence never occurred, and I still can\u2019t find hard evidence Jane\u2019s Revenge is an actual group.<\/li><li>Dana Milbank of the <em>Washington Post<\/em> writes of the Supreme Court\u2019s \u201cradicals\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/06\/25\/roe-guns-supreme-court-radicals-maximum-chaos\/\">sowing maximum chaos<\/a> with their inconsistent use of precedent and selective applications of history.<\/li><li>Adam Serwer of the <em>Atlantic<\/em> writes that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2022\/06\/roe-overturned-supreme-court-samuel-alito-opinion\/661386\/\">the Constitution is whatever the right-wing says it is<\/a>, regardless of the document\u2019s text or judicial precedent, calling it \u201cundead constitutionalism.\u201d<\/li><li>Vox\u2019s Ian Millhiser says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2022\/6\/27\/23184848\/supreme-court-kennedy-bremerton-school-football-coach-prayer-neil-gorsuch\">Neil Gorsuch lied about the facts of the <em>Kennedy v. Bremerton<\/em> case<\/a> to gift a victory to the religious right.<\/li><li>The <em>New York Times<\/em>\u2019s Paul Krugman <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paulkrugman\/status\/1542529301744160769\">tweeted his disdain<\/a> for the recent run of SCOTUS decisions.<\/li><li>CNN\u2019s Jill Filipovic wrote that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/06\/28\/opinions\/abortion-ban-rape-exception-republicans-filipovic\/index.html\">the Republican Party has a rape problem<\/a>\u201d about the spate of abortion bans that don\u2019t even try to make an exception for victims of rape or incest.<\/li><li>The arrest of Lizelle Herrera in Texas for having a miscarriage is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grid.news\/story\/politics\/2022\/04\/15\/lizelle-herreras-arrest-in-texas-is-not-unique-and-could-get-much-more-common\/\">far from unique and likely to become more common<\/a> in the wake of the SCOTUS ruling.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbs.org\/news\/border-immigration\/2022\/06\/30\/mexican-abortion-clinics-bracing-influx-americans\">Mexican abortion clinics are preparing for an influx of patients<\/a> from the United States, especially with two border states trying to completely ban the medical procedure.<\/li><li>A ten-year-old girl in Ohio who was six weeks and three days pregnant had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/news\/2022\/07\/01\/ohio-girl-10-among-patients-going-indiana-abortion\/7788415001\/\">to travel to Indiana to get an abortion<\/a> because Ohio banned the procedure for anyone, for any reason, after six weeks. I just want to restate that the pregnant person here was a ten-year-old girl.<\/li><li>A major Kansas City area health system has <a href=\"https:\/\/amp.kansascity.com\/news\/politics-government\/article262988028.html\">stopped providing Plan B contraception in its Missouri facilities<\/a> after the state banned all abortions, even for victims of sexual assault.<\/li><li>Marcus Stroman was one of many MLB players to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/sports\/cubs\/ct-chicago-cubs-marcus-stroman-roe-wade-20220629-kqaaslcazzdbziv7w4yneammhy-story.html\">criticize the SCOTUS ruling overturning <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/a>.<\/li><li>President Biden appears to have struck a deal with Sen. Mitch McConnell to <a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/news-and-politics\/2022\/07\/biden-mcconnell-chad-meredith-abortion-kentucky-judge.html\">put an anti-abortion judge on the federal bench in Kentucky<\/a><\/li><li>On the Athletic, Hockey Canada is losing sponsors after it came out that <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/news\/hockey-canada-sponsors-withdraw\/r86bODFMnKu3\/\">they covered up an incident where eight of their players sexually assaulted a woman<\/a>, who sued the organization and signed an NDA when they settled.<\/li><li>Mental Floss writes of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalfloss.com\/posts\/singular-they-history\">600-year history of the singular \u2018they.\u2019<\/a><\/li><li>Angeli Rose Gomez, the Uvalde mother who rushed into the elementary school to save her two boys during the massacre there, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/angeli-rose-gomez-attorney-uvalde-police-harassment_n_62b9ce27e4b06594c1e7c72a\">has been harassed by police<\/a> and had to move out from her sons to protect them. She\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/jezebel.com\/uvalde-mom-who-rescued-her-two-kids-is-suing-police-ove-1849125200\">suing the department now<\/a>.<\/li><li>Police in New Haven, Connecticut, put a Black man in handcuffs, threw him in a van without a seatbelt, and then made an abrupt stop while driving, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/g5vbjy\/new-haven-man-paralyzed-police-van-randy-cox\">which threw him within the van and made him a quadriplegic<\/a>. He\u2019s on a respirator, eating through a feeding tube, and is suing the department.<\/li><li>Two Virginia politicians, both Republicans, filed a lawsuit seeking to have <a href=\"https:\/\/bleedingcool.com\/comics\/oni-press-maia-kobabe-sued-for-obscenity-by-republican-politicians\/\">a graphic memoir called <em>Gender Queer<\/em> declared obscene<\/a>. The ACLU, PEN America, the Virginia Library Association, the Authors Guild, Barnes &amp; Noble, and several other groups all signed a letter opposing the suit.<\/li><li>Alan Henry, author of the new book <em>Seen, Heard, and Paid: The New Work Rules for the Marginalized<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/objectivejournalism.org\/2022\/06\/qa-alan-henry\/\">spoke to Objective Journalism about his career<\/a> as a Black man in traditional journalism, including some negative experiences at the <em>New York Times<\/em>.<\/li><li>California is considering a bill that would give their state medical board more power <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skepticalraptor.com\/skepticalraptorblog.php\/california-law-to-limit-medical-disinformation-anti-vaccine-forces-whine\/\">to discipline doctors who spread medical misinformation<\/a>, and of course anti-vaxxers are unhappy about it.<\/li><li>I regret to inform you that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/politics\/article\/Sen-Ted-Cruz-is-feuding-with-another-Sesame-17274379.php\">Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is once again feuding with a Muppet<\/a>.<\/li><li>This <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AccountableGOP\/status\/1542866096537145345\">video of highlights from the Wyoming Republican House primary debate<\/a> is \u2026 something.<\/li><li>The price of Turkey agreeing to admit Sweden and Finland into NATO is Turkey\u2019s demand now that those two nations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-61980555\">extradite 33 opponents of the Turkish regime<\/a>, including members of the banned Kurdistan Workers\u2019 Party and followers of an exiled cleric whom Turkey blames for a failed 2016 coup attempt.<\/li><li>The group Check My Ads is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/2022\/jun\/24\/campaign-strip-fox-news-site-of-ad-revenue\">targeting Fox News\u2019 advertisers<\/a> as the network\u2019s hosts have been downplaying the January 6<sup>th<\/sup> insurrection.<\/li><li>It\u2019s rare, but we have our first confirmed case of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-022-01792-y\">a human getting SARS-CoV-2 from a cat<\/a>.<\/li><li>Board game news: NPR\u2019s Throughline podcast does a deep dive on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/06\/29\/1108728257\/do-not-pass-go\">the history of Monopoly<\/a>, from its disputed origins to its flawed depiction of the American dream.
