(I tried to go see Reading\/Altoona this week, but got rained out after I parked but before I even got into the stadium.) Ron DeSantis blocked state funding for a new player development facility<\/a> in Pasco County.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Writing for <em>DAME<\/em>, attorney &amp; counsel to the Democracy Program at the Brennan Center Madiba Kennie asks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.damemagazine.com\/2022\/06\/02\/is-court-reform-possible\/\">if Supreme Court reform is even possible<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>NPR\u2019s Nina Totenberg writes about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/06\/08\/1103476028\/after-the-leak-the-supreme-court-seethes-with-resentment-and-fear-behind-the-sce\">the complexity and contradictions of the investigation into the release of the Supreme Court draft opinion<\/a> that will overturn <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>. Speaking of the Supreme Court, Ginni Thomas, wife of Justice Clarence Thomas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/investigations\/2022\/06\/10\/ginni-thomas-election-arizona-lawmakers\/\">emailed 29 Arizona lawmakers to urge them to overturn Joe Biden\u2019s electoral victory<\/a> in that state.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A 13-year-old Baltimore middle school student <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbaltv.com\/article\/athumani-brown-dies-at-northbay-adventure-camp\/40187713\">died suddenly on a school field trip<\/a> in Cecil County, Maryland. There\u2019s still no indication why he died or details on what happened, five days later. What a nightmare for his family.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/06\/08\/transgender-texas-child-abuse-lawsuit\/\">More families are suing Texas<\/a> over the state\u2019s investigations into parents who provide gender-affirming care to their trans kids. A district court judge ruled on Friday that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/06\/10\/us\/texas-judge-blocks-state-investigating-family-gender-affirming-care\/index.html\">the state must suspend these investigations<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Daily Wire commentator Matt Walsh tweeted this week that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/spacermase\/status\/1533695281874673665\">gender reassignment surgery should be illegal<\/a> for everyone, regardless of age.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A Baptist preacher in Texas said to his congregation that all gay people \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/onlysky.media\/hemant-mehta\/christian-hate-preacher-calls-for-the-execution-of-every-single-homosexual\/\">should be lined up against the wall and shot in the back of the head \u2026 That\u2019s what the Bible says<\/a>.\u201d (The Bible does not say that.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Sen. Rick Scott\u2019s \u201cplan to save America\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-politics-and-policy\/sen-rick-scotts-gop-manifesto-denies-existence-transgender-people-rcna17339\">denies the existence of trans people<\/a>. For a harrowing but essential read on the topic, I recommend <em><a href=\"http:\/\/klaw.me\/WrEIHP\">King L\u00e9opold\u2019s Ghost<\/a><\/em>, recommended to me a decade ago by one of you, which details the awful period where Africa\u2019s largest country was a personal colony of the Belgian king, and explains why the DRC has been unstable for its entire history since independence.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An 8-year-old boy who was on vacation with his family in South Carolina <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/boy-8-vacation-s-carolina-killed-man-shooting-random-cars-officials-sa-rcna31565\">was shot and killed by a resident who was shooting at passing cars<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An Uvalde pediatrician who treated victims of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary testified before Congress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/news\/texas\/uvalde-school-shooting\/uvalde-pediatrician-shares-grisly-account-of-treating-young-shooting-victims\/\">about the state of the bodies he saw<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The<em> Washington Post<\/em> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/09\/business\/media\/felicia-sonmez-washington-post.html\">fired writer Felicia Sonmez<\/a>.
