ProPublica documents the case of one woman who did just that and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/she-said-her-husband-was-abusive-a-judge-took-away-her-kids-and-ordered-her-arrest\">lost custody of her four kids<\/a> because the judge charged her with contempt four times and ordered her arrest.<\/li><li>The <em>New Yorker<\/em> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/the-new-yorker-interview\/j-kenji-lopez-alt-says-youre-cooking-just-fine\">a tremendous interview with J. Kenji Lopez-Alt<\/a>, conducted by Helen Rosner, as his new book <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/2960\/9780393541212\">The Wok<\/a><\/em> hits shelves on Tuesday.<\/li><li>My friend Tim Grierson wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/melmagazine.com\/en-us\/story\/tears-for-fears-everybody-wants-to-rule-the-world\">Tears for Fears&#8217; enduring hit &#8220;Everybody Wants to Rule the World.&#8221;<\/a><\/li><li>I don&#8217;t know if this <em>New York Times<\/em> piece, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/26\/us\/robert-kennedy-covid-vaccine.html\">how RFK Jr.&#8217;s family friends feel about his descent into anti-vaxx grifting<\/a>, is helpful or not.<\/li><li>Two new pre-prints <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2022\/02\/26\/science\/covid-virus-wuhan-origins.html?\">show more evidence for a zoonotic origin<\/a> for the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. There&#8217;s also a follow-up thread that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/angie_rasmussen\/status\/1500119699362705408\">underscores one of the findings<\/a> that wasn&#8217;t well-covered in that article. Needless to say, the lab-leak grifters were quick to attack \u2013 the author of a book that depends on the lab-leak hypothesis asked her followers on twitter to harass one of the journal&#8217;s editors to try to stop publication, and is trying <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/macroliter\/status\/1499967892250636288\">increasingly desperate attacks on the pre-prints<\/a>.<\/li><li>Also, a new journal article found that <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2789423\">gender-affirming care improved mental health outcomes in transgender children<\/a>. Just in case you weren&#8217;t clear on what was going on in Texas and anywhere the Republican Party is in charge. Oh, Texas Children&#8217;s Hospital <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/news\/houston-texas\/houston\/article\/Texas-Children-s-Hospital-pauses-hormone-16978565.php\">has paused hormone therapies for trans kids<\/a>, thanks to the state&#8217;s directive. These could be your kids. We should all be outraged.<\/li><li>Of course, now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/pro-putin-disinformation-on-ukraine-is-thriving-in-online-anti-vax-groups\/\">pro-Putin propaganda is flooding anti-vax groups<\/a> online, along with the usual anti-science and anti-Semitic nonsense.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/oss\/article\/covid-19-health-and-nutrition\/masked-kids-are-alright\">There&#8217;s no evidence that wearing a mask leads to physical or psychological harm for kids<\/a>. They don&#8217;t cause carbon dioxide poisoning, don&#8217;t lead to developmental delays, and help prevent the spread of COVID-19.<\/li><li>The Biden Administration&#8217;s most recent moves have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2022\/03\/covid-cdc-guidelines-masks\/623337\/\">killed our collective approach to slowing the pandemic<\/a>, by taking measures designed to protect the most vulnerable members of society and making them into personal decisions.<\/li><li>Now anti-vaxxers are trying to convince parents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/anti-vaxxers-have-a-new-obsession-keeping-your-kids-from-seeing-their-doctors\/\">not to take their kids to the pediatrician<\/a>.<\/li><li>Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and state Sen. Wendy Rogers are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/opinion\/op-ed\/ej-montini\/2022\/02\/28\/gov-doug-ducey-ties-himself-wendy-rogers-nick-fuentes\/6964211001\/\">both directly connected to white nationalist Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes<\/a>. The connection may be part of why Ducey declined to run for the U.S. Senate this week.<\/li><li>Supreme Court nominations have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/03\/02\/ketanji-brown-jackson-dark-money-hypocrisy\">become a farce because of a Supreme Court ruling<\/a>, writes Dana Milbank of the <em>Washington Post<\/em>.<\/li><li>While nobody was paying much attention, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/trump-just-endorsed-an-oath-keepers-plan-to-seize-control-of-the-republican-party\">Trump endorsed a right-wing plan to take over the GOP<\/a> \u2013 and steal an election or two.<\/li><li>The newly-elected government of Honduras is going <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-latin-america-60570831\">to ban open-pit mining<\/a>, a profitable but environmentally disastrous practice.<\/li><li>A small bit of good environmental news: the scourge of purple sea urchins that has devastated the California coast&#8217;s kelp forests has led to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/food\/story\/2022-03-03\/from-plague-to-delicacy-reconsidering-purple-sea-urchin\">a new industry that harvests and farms the urchins<\/a> to sell uni, the roe of sea urchins often found at sushi restaurants, in turn easing some of the pressure on the kelp forests.<\/li><li>Missouri lawmakers are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/sports-betting-takes-step-forward-in-missouri\/article_a7ab7c3e-429c-563e-8f24-ef87b51d5bd0.html\">rushing to legalize sports betting<\/a>, but only in casinos and sports stadiums.
