I think this is their best effort yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No podcasts this week, but my show will return next week. And, as the holidays approach, I&#8217;ll remind you all every week that I have two books out, <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/2960\/9780062942739\"><em>The Inside Game<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/2960\/9780062490230\"><em>Smart Baseball<\/em><\/a>, that would make great gifts for the readers (especially baseball fans) on your lists<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, the links\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Longreads first: <em>New York<\/em> has the inside story of reporter <a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2021\/11\/inside-felicia-sonmezs-war-against-the-washington-post.html\">Felicia Sonmez&#8217;s lawsuit against her employer<\/a>, the <em>Washington Post<\/em>, with some damning details about the now-retired executive editor Marty Baron, one of the heroes of <em>Spotlight<\/em>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-59270426\">pardoned Dontae Sharpe<\/a>, who was wrongfully convicted of a murder he didn&#8217;t commit and served 26 years for it, even though a key witness recanted her testimony just months after his trial.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Sugar companies burn the fields as part of the harvest, which may be <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/black-snow\/\">causing respiratory ailments in the south Florida communities<\/a> around the sugar fields.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The <em>New Yorker<\/em> looks at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/news\/us-journal\/is-this-the-worst-place-to-be-poor-and-charged-with-a-federal-crime\">how little the Southern District of Georgia does for indigent people<\/a> charged with federal crimes, and where judges have undue influence over the public defender&#8217;s office.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Coffee, and specialty coffee in particular, is a Yemeni product, but the Yemeni people have not benefited from its explosion into a high-end product consumed around the world. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/12\/nyregion\/yemen-coffee-brooklyn.html\">Some Yemeni entrepreneurs in Brooklyn are trying to change that<\/a>, with coffee shops that use Yemen-grown coffee \u2013 no mean feat given the chaos and devastation of seven years of civil war there.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A Latino police officer in Joliet, Illinois, leaked official video that showed a colleague choking and slapping a suspect who was dying of a drug overdose. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/investigations\/2021\/11\/12\/union-ousts-police-officer-featured-in-usa-today-behind-the-blue-wall-series\/6396601001\/\">The police union&#8217;s response was to kick him out<\/a>, and the DA has filed criminal charges against him.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Law professor Dorit Reiss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skepticalraptor.com\/skepticalraptorblog.php\/court-stays-the-biden-osha-covid-vaccine-mandate-an-analysis\">breaks down the Court of Appeals&#8217; stay of President Biden&#8217;s vaccine mandate<\/a> for large employers, saying the decision is based on dubious legal arguments.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2021\/11\/mike-lee-2022-election\/620671\/\">Could Sen.
