She preyed on their desire to have children, often taking thousands of dollars in &#8220;expenses&#8221; for pregnant women who placed their babies with other families or who never actually existed at all.<\/li><li>Tara Smith wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quantamagazine.org\/why-smallpox-is-no-more-but-polio-and-other-diseases-persist-20191203\/\">how to eradicate diseases<\/a> back in December of 2019, just as SARS-CoV-2 was emerging. She tweeted this link this week to say that we&#8217;re not eradicating this virus as long as it has numerous, unknown animal reservoirs.<\/li><li>My colleague Adam Crafton wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/2891232\/2021\/10\/16\/risking-death-to-tell-the-truth-saudi-arabias-lgbt-community\/\">the horrendous treatment of LGBTQ+ people in Saudi Arabia<\/a>, the government of which now owns 80% of Newcastle United.<\/li><li>If we want to stop climate change, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/news\/annals-of-a-warming-planet\/to-counter-climate-change-we-need-to-stop-burning-things\">we have to stop burning things<\/a>.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/10\/20\/opinion\/quitting-jobs-resignation-employment.html\">Normalize quitting<\/a>, says Lindsay Crouse in a <em>New York Times<\/em> video.<\/li><li>There&#8217;s a real debate to be had over how powerful natural immunity from a COVID-19 infection is, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2021\/10\/19\/politics-is-derailing-a-crucial-debate-over-the-immunity-you-get-from-recovering-from-covid-19\/\">politics is derailing it<\/a>. People screaming that it means they don&#8217;t need a vaccine cause those on the other side to dismiss the point entirely.<\/li><li>OK, Joy Pullman. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/18\/for-christians-dying-from-covid-or-anything-else-is-a-good-thing\/\">You go first<\/a>.<\/li><li>Why is <a href=\"https:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2021\/10\/the-other-federal-judge-advancing-the-i-hate-black-people-law-students-career\/\">Judge William Pryor advancing the career<\/a> of a law student who has made blatantly racist statements?<\/li><li>Trump supporters in a north Texas county that TFG won by a 4-1 ratio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/trump-won-the-county-in-a-landslide-his-supporters-still-hounded-the-elections-administrator-until-she-resigned\">still hounded an election administrator out of office<\/a>, accusing her of having a liberal agenda.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/the-trump-administration-used-its-food-aid-program-for-political-gain-congressional-investigators-find\">The Trump Administration used its food aid program to give millions to connected firms<\/a> and to promote the then-President. No one will ever be held accountable for this.<\/li><li>Netflix <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/10\/15\/22728337\/netflix-fires-organizer-trans-employee-walkout-dave-chappelle\">fired the organizer of the employee walkout<\/a> to protest the transphobic content in the recent Dave Chappelle comedy special, claiming the employee leaked confidential data.<\/li><li>A white cop in Louisiana <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2021\/10\/19\/louisiana-black-woman-sheriff-video-arnold\/\">grabbed a Black woman by her hair and slammed her to the ground multiple times<\/a>. ProPublica also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/three-children-attacked-a-black-woman-a-sheriffs-deputy-arrived-and-beat-her-more\">has the story<\/a>. The incident, of which there is video, occurred five weeks ago, and the officer has not been identified or, as far as anyone has reported, disciplined in any way.<\/li><li>Minneapolis schools using online survelliance software called Gaggle are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2021\/10\/minneapolis-schools-spying-queer-students-reporting-teachers-parents\/\">outing LGBTQ+ students to their parents<\/a>.<\/li><li>Sen. Bernie Sanders wrote an op ed in the <em>Charleston Gazette-Mail<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wvgazettemail.com\/opinion\/op_ed_commentaries\/sen-bernie-sanders-lets-stand-together-to-protect-working-families-opinion\/article_a3c7ca4e-ed65-522b-9693-a9dc32076187.html?utm_source=pocket_mylist\">calling out fellow Democrat Joe Manchin&#8217;s obstructionism and refusal<\/a> to support climate-change mitigation policies that would benefit his constituents.<\/li><li>Paris Hilton (!) wrote an op ed in the <em>Washington Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/10\/18\/paris-hilton-child-care-facilities-abuse-reform\/\">calling for regulation and reform of the &#8220;troubled teen&#8221; industry<\/a>, which she says generates $50 billion in revenue per year.<\/li><li>St. Helena, one of the few places in the world that has yet to report a single COVID-19 case, is hoping to use that status to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-58966376?utm_source=pocket_mylist\">lure more tourists to the remote South Atlantic island<\/a>.<\/li><li>Something&#8217;s rotten in Dover: Two Democratic state Senators here in Delaware are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.delawareonline.com\/story\/opinion\/2021\/10\/01\/offensive-language-versus-offensive-touching-double-standards-dover\/5935022001\/\">facing calls for their resignation<\/a>, but the party is treating them differently. Gerald Brady used a horrible ethnic slur referring to people of east Asian descent in an email, while Darius Brown was arrested and charged with &#8220;offensive touching&#8221; and disorderly conduct after allegedly punching a woman in the face during an argument.
