I&#8217;ll have probably one more post, a longer one that covers everything else I saw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over at Paste, I reviewed <a href=\"https:\/\/klaw.me\/3aGulyp\">Riftforce<\/a>, a great new two-player game that sort of combines Battle Line and Magic: the Gathering, if you can imagine that. It has a very high replay value as well, which is key in a two-player game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With some more content out, I&#8217;ll get on <a href=\"https:\/\/tinyletter.com\/keithlaw\">my email newsletter<\/a> as soon as I&#8217;m back from Arizona. And, as the holidays approach, I&#8217;ll remind you all every week that I have two books out, <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/2960\/9780062942739\"><em>The Inside Game<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/2960\/9780062490230\"><em>Smart Baseball<\/em><\/a>, that would make great gifts for the readers (especially baseball fans) on your lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, the links, with a shorter list this week as I&#8217;ve been reading less while on the road\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Poynter senior media writer Tom Jones explains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poynter.org\/commentary\/2021\/espns-adam-schefter-crosses-a-journalistic-line\/\">why Adam Schefter was completely in the wrong<\/a> to allow the subject of an article to see and approve that article before publication. Of <em>course<\/em> Darren Rovell defended it.<\/li><li>One of you sent this along: Writing in <em>Reason<\/em>, Matt Welch explained <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2021\/10\/10\/how-government-devastated-minor-league-baseball\/\">how the government helped MLB wreck the minors<\/a>, and how they can also help undo some of the damage. I tweeted this earlier in the week: If you care about minor league players, call your Representative and Senators and ask them to repeal the Save America&#8217;s Pastime Act. It&#8217;ll take you 5-10 minutes.<\/li><li>Netflix has really <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/10\/11\/22720724\/netflix-suspends-trans-employee-tweeted-dave-chappelle-the-closer\">fumbled its response to criticism<\/a> from its own employees of the transphobic material in Dave Chappelle&#8217;s new comedy special.<\/li><li>A prominent Australian anti-vaccine influencer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.com.au\/lifestyle\/real-life\/news-life\/prominent-antivaxxer-deletes-social-media-after-family-dons-infamous-antisemitic-symbol\/news-story\/d816ecffef233425278fc65ad1543fca?utm_source=pocket_mylist\">put yellow stars of David on herself and her family<\/a> last week, later deleting several of her social media accounts after people pointed out what an incredibly shitty, anti-Semitic move that was.<\/li><li>Hold your surprise, but <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fact-checking-275980853664\">anti-vaxxers are misrepresenting a study on breakthrough cases in Vietnam<\/a>.<\/li><li>Police officers in Dayton, Ohio, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/10\/11\/us\/ohio-police-paraplegic-stop.html\">dragged a paraplegic Black man from his car by his hair<\/a>. The victim, Clifford Owensby, was charged with \u2013 wait for it &#8211; having tinted windows, and failing to have his son in a car seat. The officers in question have not been identified and you know damn well that means they haven&#8217;t been sanctioned, suspended, or fired.<\/li><li>Via Craig Calcaterra: The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc4i.com\/news\/state-news\/ohio-education-board-considering-rescinding-resolution-condemning-racism\/\">Ohio Board of Education voted to rescind a resolution condemning racism<\/a>. That&#8217;s right, kids: In Midwest Florida, racism isn&#8217;t bad any more!<\/li><li>The University of Delaware tried <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/culture-news\/university-of-delaware-brandon-freyre-assault-protests-arrest-1241623\/\">to hush up a horrible sexual assault committed by one student against another<\/a>, but had to acknowledge it when activists made the story go viral on TikTok. The school claimed it was a &#8220;domestic violence&#8221; incident that didn&#8217;t require that they notify the campus community.<\/li><li>Also from a reader: The <em>St. Louis Post-Dispatch<\/em> discovered that a state health department database revealed social security numbers and other private information of some Missourians, so they notified the government, gave them time to fix the error, and then published a story. The Governor&#8217;s response: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/parson-issues-legal-threat-against-post-dispatch-after-database-flaws-exposed\/article_93f4d7d6-f792-5b1b-b556-00b5cac23af3.html\">threaten to sue the paper for &#8216;hacking.&#8217;<\/a><\/li><li>Podcaster and writer Michael Hobbes followed up on last week&#8217;s &#8220;bad art friend&#8221; longread by pointing out that <a href=\"https:\/\/rottenindenmark.org\/2021\/10\/10\/identifying-the-bad-art-friend-is-easy\/\">it&#8217;s easy to see who the bad art friend is: Both of them<\/a>.<\/li><li>Nik Sharma, author of <em>Seasons <\/em>and <em>The Flavor Equation<\/em>, offered <a href=\"https:\/\/food52.com\/blog\/25677-how-to-cut-onions-without-crying?utm_source=pocket_mylist\">some tips to avoid &#8216;crying&#8217; when dicing onions<\/a>.<\/li><li>A sort-of-reporter for an Ole Miss fan site published quotes from a player <a href=\"https:\/\/deadspin.com\/finally-some-ole-miss-drama-that-doesn-t-involve-lane-1847867195\">despite never talking to that player to get those quotes<\/a>. The reporter has been fired and the site itself was rebranded without two of its former leaders.<\/li><li>Board game news, starting with some Kickstarters of note: the train-and-stock game <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/dnlnwmn\/union-station\">Union Station<\/a>, the beautiful seed-planting game <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/chadelkins\/gartenbau-0\">Gartenbau<\/a> (Horticulture), and the set collection game <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/onipress\/birdwatcher-the-board-game\">Birdwatcher<\/a>, which has a theme that seems a bit familiar to me.<\/li><li>Upper Deck is running a contest with the top prize <a href=\"https:\/\/upperdeckstore.com\/legendary-gamer\">a free trip to Gen Con 2022<\/a>.
