Robinson points how, increasingly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.currentaffairs.org\/2020\/08\/the-truth-is-paywalled-but-the-lies-are-free\/\">verifiable information is behind paywalls while alt-right bullshit is free<\/a>, and looks at the consequences of that dichotomy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Novelist Chimamanda Adichie suffered a concussion earlier this year, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/chimamanda-ngozi-adichie-concussion-coronavirus\/2020\/08\/07\/3697dc0c-d505-11ea-aff6-220dd3a14741_story.html\">wrote about the experience<\/a>, including the introspection that came with the temporary loss of part of her brain function.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The World Health Organization has created a one-stop shop for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/diseases\/novel-coronavirus-2019\/advice-for-public\/myth-busters\">correct answers to common myths about COVID-19<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association made the correct decision to delay fall sports until February. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wdel.com\/news\/parents-petitioning-diaa-to-reverse-suspension-of-high-school-fall-sports\/article_5a2aabec-dd82-11ea-8aa1-c771c0b7f098.html\">Some parents are pushing a petition to demand they reverse this<\/a>, and the comments from parents in that article drip with ignorance and privilege.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2020\/aug\/12\/mark-grenon-archbishop-florida-church-selling-bleach-miracle-cure-arrested-son\">A Florida church leader has been arrested for pushing the fake cure<\/a> known as &#8220;miracle mineral solution&#8221; (MMS), which is really just bleach.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/culture-features\/mom-influencers-instagram-covid-19-coronavirus-mask-propaganda-misinformation-1033154\/\">Mom influencers on Instagram are spreading anti-mask propaganda<\/a>. Instagram is owned by Facebook and neither site seems willing to clean up their own shit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/53430686\">Almost a third of elite sportswomen reported harassment or trolling<\/a> on social media according to a survey by BBC Sport.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The opposition to masks is beyond belief at this point. You probably read about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2020\/08\/12\/masks-florida-ban-billy-woods\/\">sheriff in Marion County, Florida, who banned masks in his offices<\/a>, and banned his deputies from wearing them. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocala.com\/news\/20200813\/marion-county-becomes-focus-of-national-face-mask-debate\">eased those restrictions slightly after the backlash<\/a>, but really, why is anyone objecting to mask mandates at this point other than ignorance or selfishness?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Putting more healthful, nutritious foods into school lunches <a href=\"https:\/\/civileats.com\/2020\/08\/10\/changes-to-school-meals-have-made-low-income-kids-healthier-will-they-last\/\">appears to have improved health outcomes like obesity<\/a> for children who receive them \u2013 so of course the Trump Administration&#8217;s USDA has rolled back those changes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A major Iowa Republican donor who &#8216;somehow&#8217; won a no-bid contract to provide PPE from China to the state is <a href=\"https:\/\/iowastartingline.com\/2020\/08\/11\/iowa-gop-donor-under-scrutiny-investigated-for-prostitution-possible-child-pornography\/\">now under investigation for prostitution and possession of child pornography<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2020\/08\/14\/alex-morse-richie-neal-state-party\/\">The Massachusetts Democratic Party helped a college group orchestrate a campaign<\/a> to entrap and smear a local Democratic candidate for the state&#8217;s 1<sup>st<\/sup> Congressional District.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>That Georgia high school that suspended a student for taking a picture of all of the maskless kids packed in the halls as they resumed classes? They had to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/education\/9-cases-of-covid-19-reported-at-north-paulding-high-school\/OWH6MN7DZ5A2XDQMXX337AQEWI\/\">shut down for several days due to an outbreak<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/news-and-politics\/2020\/08\/john-roberts-8th-circuit-abortion-rights-arkansas.html\" target=\"_blank\">Reproductive rights took a huge hit this week<\/a> at the Supreme Court thanks to John Roberts&#8217; conservative majority and their decision to allow several anti-abortion and outright misogynistic laws in Arkansas to stand.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>There&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-africa-53713391\">massive oil spill in progress on the Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A telling comparison of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheVaccination\/status\/1293530497994256385\">the different speaker lists at anti-vaxx and pro-vaccine conferences<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>We watched season one of <em>Perry Mason<\/em> on HBO and I agree with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv\/tv-features\/perry-mason-season-one-finale-recap-1039841\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">everything Alan Sepinwall said about it<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Board game news: There&#8217;s an <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/umbrella-academy-card-game-dark-horse-comics\/\">Umbrella Academy card game in the works<\/a>, for fans of that Netflix series.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I&#8217;ve never played Arkwright given its length and complexity, although it&#8217;s pretty highly regarded.
