It also made a <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/spring-books-baseball-11587051387\">roundup\nof three recommended baseball books<\/a> for the spring and was recommended by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehook.com\/article\/arts-entertainment\/best-movies-tv-books-music-april-2020\">Inside\nHook<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I did a <a href=\"https:\/\/klaw.me\/34Zoel2\">Q&amp;A at the\nAthletic<\/a> on Thursday, and part two of my diptych on scouting, <a href=\"https:\/\/klaw.me\/3buNjXD\">covering pitcher grades<\/a>, with Eno Sarris is\nalso up for subscribers. The Athletic ran <a href=\"https:\/\/klaw.me\/2wWs3Lm\">an\nexcerpt from <em>The Inside Game<\/em><\/a> on base-rate neglect and why teams\ndraft too many high school pitchers in the first round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My own podcast this week featured Dr. Paul Sax of Harvard\nMedical School &amp; Brigham and Women&#8217;s Hospital, talking about COVID-19 and\nbaseball fandom. Carroll of the\nIndiana University School of Medicine.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/truthout.org\/articles\/fascists-are-using-covid-19-to-advance-their-agenda-its-up-to-us-to-stop-them\/\">Nationalist\ngroups are using COVID-19<\/a> to push their agendas to reduce civil liberties,\nconsolidate power, and spread hate and distrust of marginalized populations.<\/li><li>Why did Nikola Motor, whose CEO just bought a\n$32 million ranch, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/04\/22\/coronavirus-nikola-motor-received-4-million-from-ppp-small-business-fund.html\">get\na $4 million payout<\/a> from the COVID-19 small business fund?<\/li><li>Those Facebook groups pushing anti-lockdown\nprotests are largely just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2020\/04\/19\/pro-gun-activists-using-facebook-groups-push-anti-quarantine-protests\/\">astroturfing\nby the Dorr brothers<\/a>, a family of conservative pro-gun activists whom Republican\nlawmakers have called &#8220;scam artists.&#8221;<\/li><li>Are COVID-19 mortality rates higher than they\nneed to be because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanscientist.com\/en\/article-of-the-week\/covid-19-and-the-elephant-in-the-room\/\">so\nmany developed nations&#8217; citizens are fundamentally unhealthy<\/a>?<\/li><li>The <em>New York Times <\/em>looked at<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/13\/arts\/television\/sesame-street-virus.html\">how\nchildren&#8217;s shows are responding to kids&#8217; needs<\/a> during the shutdown, such as\nSesame Street&#8217;s episode with a virtual playdate for Elmo and various real and\nMuppet friends. (I especially enjoyed Cookie Monster&#8217;s appearance.)<\/li><li>A few German citizens are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-germany-protests-idUSKCN2270RD\">protesting\nlockdown measures<\/a> under the guise of liberty or some nonsense.<\/li><li>Rep. Donna Shalala (D-FL) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/politics-government\/article242178846.html\">failed\nto disclose stock sales<\/a> in 2019 while she was serving in Congress, violating\nfederal law.<\/li><li>Board game news: Renegade is now taking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.renegadegamestudios.com\/viscounts-of-the-west-kingdom\">pre-orders\nfor Viscounts of the West Kingdom<\/a>, the third game in the West Kingdom\ntrilogy, for delivery at Gen Con (if the convention takes place).<\/li><li>I don&#8217;t know much about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seaoflegendsgame.com\/news\">the upcoming game Sea of Legends<\/a>\nother than that it&#8217;s narrative-based and looks like it has a great theme.<\/li><li>Boardgamegeek&#8217;s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/thread\/2410786\/14th-annual-golden-geek-awards-nominees-announced\">Golden\nGeek Awards balloting has now opened<\/a>. I do wonder if Wingspan will suffer\nany backlash to its crossover success in the voting.
