Also, check out <a href=\"https:\/\/tinyletter.com\/keithlaw\">my free email newsletter<\/a>, which I say I&#8217;ll write more often than I actually write it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, the links&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Coronavirus first, unfortunately: The White House has repeatedly sought to minimize the facts about the virus&#8217; spread, and even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-secrecy-exclusive-idUSKBN20Y2LM\">ordered federal health officials to make their deliberations classified<\/a>, which just further slowed the response \u2026 The Singapore government&#8217;s strategy in response to the virus has won praise from the WHO while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/goatsandsoda\/2020\/03\/12\/814522489\/singapore-wins-praise-for-its-covid-19-strategy-the-u-s-does-not\">the United States&#8217; strategy has been insufficient<\/a> \u2026 The former head of the White House pandemic office explains what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/outlook\/nsc-pandemic-office-trump-closed\/2020\/03\/13\/a70de09c-6491-11ea-acca-80c22bbee96f_story.html\">the department did before Trump closed it for no apparent reason at all<\/a>. He won&#8217;t answer questions about the decision, of course. <\/li><li>Two longer reads on the virus: How the Chinese scientist known to colleagues as the &#8220;bat woman&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/how-chinas-bat-woman-hunted-down-viruses-from-sars-to-the-new-coronavirus1\/?amp\">has identified dozens of virii in that family<\/a> (similar to the ones that cause COVID-19 and SARS) by searching in bat caves \u2026 James Hamblin, whose work for the <em>Atlantic <\/em>has been some of the best writing on the pandemic, points out that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2020\/03\/where-do-you-go-if-you-get-coronavirus\/607759\/\">staying home if you start coughing is not a sufficient plan<\/a>.<\/li><li>Longreads: The BBC had three great longreads this week. The first is on the twenty-year quest to solve <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/extra\/u5IdEAokvl\/idaho-falls-murder-of-angie-dodge\" target=\"_blank\">a murder in Idaho Falls<\/a>, one for which an innocent man spent nearly all that time in prison because he was railroaded by police interrogators.<\/li><li>The second is by a woman who tried to get investigators to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/stories-51680410\">track down a child abused in a pedophilia video<\/a>.<\/li><li>And the third is about efforts by victims of sexual assault to get videos of their attacks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/stories-51391981\">removed from porn sites<\/a>.<\/li><li>ProPublica found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/the-rnc-gave-big-contracts-to-companies-linked-to-its-chairwomans-husband-and-political-backers\">the Republican National Committee has handed out big contracts<\/a> to companies linked to Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel&#8217;s husband and her political bankers.<\/li><li>The media needs to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/coronavirus-covid-19\/reframing-trumps-incoherent-inaccurate-ramblings-bland-political-copy\">stop treating Trump&#8217;s inaccurate and often incoherent statements<\/a> as normal political copy.<\/li><li>While we&#8217;re all distracted by the growing pandemic, Congress is considering a bill that would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/interface\/2020\/3\/12\/21174815\/earn-it-act-encryption-killer-lindsay-graham-match-group?fbclid=IwAR0fPlJKyC3L5J2WjO_Jx8UQFCsTUklV6ryR9QoGan1omz0PmceGo4IUIkM\">give law enforcement a back door into encrypted communications<\/a>, giving the government far greater surveillance powers.<\/li><li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonblade.com\/2020\/03\/09\/u-s-agency-seeks-to-cut-lgbtq-protections-in-union-contract-talks\/\">National Labor Relations Board is trying to remove non-discrimination language<\/a> from its contract with professional attorneys, eliminating protections against discrimination based on race, sex, religion, and sexual orientation.<\/li><li>NPR&#8217;s Short Wave has a 12-minute audio clip on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/03\/04\/812280695\/creating-antimatter-matters-evil-twin\">anti-matter and attempts to create it<\/a>.<\/li><li>Worsening relations between Estonia and Russia have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-51643309\">split the Seto ethnic minority<\/a> with an increasingly impassable border.<\/li><li>Board game news: Capstone Games announced a new game, <a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/dcb01140433d\/capstone-games-announces-uwe-rosenbergs-new-york-zoo\">New York Zoo<\/a>, from designer Uwe Rosenberg (Agricola, Patchwork, Cottage Garden).<\/li><li>Viscounts of the West Kingdom, the third game in the second trilogy from designer Shem Phillips (Architects of the West Kingdom, Raiders of the North Sea), is at nearly $600,000 as it ends <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/shem\/viscounts-of-the-west-kingdom-tomesaga\">its Kickstarter run<\/a>.<\/li><li>Dire Wolf Digital&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.direwolfdigital.com\/news\/sagrada-now-in-steam-early-access\/\">port of Sagrada<\/a> is now in Early Access on Steam; I&#8217;ve played it a few times and it&#8217;s very strong, as all of DWD&#8217;s adaptations have been.<\/li><li>Finally, this is just &#8230; special.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Seeing some incredible takes about Public Enemy today <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ag2zk7DhHg\">pic.twitter.com\/ag2zk7DhHg<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Wild Geerters (@steinkobbe) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/steinkobbe\/status\/1234515118270091267?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have one new post for The Athletic subscribers this week, looking at what might happen to the draft when there are no games to scout.
