I&#8217;ll be working through the weekend to stay on schedule for\nthat release date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I do have a new game review up at <em>Paste<\/em>, covering <a href=\"https:\/\/klaw.me\/2vqfve1\">Genius Games&#8217; new title Ecosystem<\/a>, a\ncard-drafting, tableau-building game that moves very quickly but has intricate\ninteractions among the cards you place. The deck has cards for two habitats and\nnine different species of animals, birds, fish, and insects, and where and how\nyou place those cards in your 4&#215;5 grid affects your ultimate scoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My second book, <em>The Inside Game: Bad Calls, Strange\nMoves, and What Baseball Behavior Teaches Us About Ourselves<\/em>, is due out on\nApril 21<sup>st<\/sup> from Harper Collins, and you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpercollins.com\/9780062942722\/the-inside-game\/\">pre-order\nit now<\/a> via their site or wherever fine books are sold. Jemisin<\/a> on the eve of the release of her first novel since\nher Broken Earth trilogy won three straight Hugo awards.<\/li><li>The <em>Guardian <\/em>has an excerpt from Andrew\nMarantz&#8217;s forthcoming book <em>Antisocial<\/em> that looks at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2020\/feb\/07\/big-swinging-brains-fashy-trolls-clickbait-death-spiral-internet-media\">how\nfar-right trolls took over social media<\/a>, with a lot of help from Silicon Valley\nexecs who view news as merely another commodity to be sold.<\/li><li>Melissa Clark has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/02\/11\/dining\/chocolate-bar.html\">a buyer&#8217;s\nguide to chocolate<\/a>, including explanations of some key terms and a\ndiscussion of the ethics of buying chocolate, in the <em>New York Times<\/em>.<\/li><li>A new federal lawsuit alleges that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/chicago-lakeshore-hospital-child-abuse-allegations-federal-lawsuit\">children\nheld at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital were drugged and\/or sexually abused<\/a>\nwhile Cook County officials covered it up, according to ProPublica.<\/li><li>Shipt, the home-delivery company now owned by\nTarget, has taken on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/dygxzw\/target-shipt-delivery-app-workers-retaliation\">some\nstrongly anti-worker practices<\/a> and encouraged its delivery folks to spend\ntheir own money to try to butter up customers.<\/li><li>From last March, Quinnipiac women&#8217;s rugby coach\nBecky Carlson looks at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/female-coaches-here-how-schools-getting-rid-us-becky-carlson\/\">how\ncolleges get rid of female coaches<\/a> who dare to speak out against systemic\nsexism and other abuses of power.<\/li><li>A pediatrician in Illinois <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.cbslocal.com\/2020\/02\/11\/doctors-suicide-note-leaves-more-questions-about-his-vaccination-practices\/\">left\na suicide note that implied that he&#8217;d been faking vaccination records<\/a>,\neither to help anti-vaccine parents, or because he himself was anti-vaccine and\nsimply lied to parents about vaccinating their kids.<\/li><li>If you live in Connecticut, call your state rep\nand your state Senator to tell them you support the bill <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/connecticut\/southbury\/ct-bill-would-eliminate-religious-exemption-vaccines\">eliminating\nall non-medical exemptions to childhood vaccination requirements<\/a>. The claim\nthat such a bill violates &#8220;religious liberties&#8221; is bullshit; no major\nreligion opposes vaccinations, and anti-vaxxers use this as a cover story for\ntheir own ignorance.<\/li><li>MIT Technology Review looks at how the\n&#8216;manosphere&#8217; of angry men, including so-called &#8216;incels,&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/s\/615155\/the-manosphere-is-getting-more-toxic-as-angry-men-join-the-incels\/\">is\nbecome more radicalized<\/a> on sites like Reddit and Gab. The Texas Department of\nPublic Safety called incels &#8220;an emerging domestic terrorism threat.&#8221;\nMaybe we should ban men from immigrating out of Texas?<\/li><li>Also in Texas, a 16-year-old boy who came to the\naid of another student who was being bullied <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/teen-stood-smaller-student-later-one-bullies-killed-him-police-n1132976\">was\nhimself shot to death by the bully<\/a>, who was no older than 15 but still\nsomehow had a handgun.<\/li><li>In 2018, Rep. Jim Jordan (guess) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/jim-jordan-accused-of-begging-former-ohio-state-wrestler-not-to-support-reports-of-sexual-abuse\/2020\/02\/12\/395e7314-4ded-11ea-bf44-f5043eb3918a_story.html\">begged\na former Ohio State wrestler to deny reports<\/a> of sexual abuse while Jordan\nwas an assistant coach on the team.<\/li><li>Islamophobe Laura Loomer is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/laura-loomer-trumpy-bigot-embraced-by-the-florida-gop-could-actually-get-to-congress\">probably\ngoing to be the Republican nominee<\/a> for Florida&#8217;s 21<sup>st<\/sup> district.<\/li><li>An abnormality in cells that produce myelin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2020\/02\/03\/802215344\/researchers-link-autism-to-a-system-that-insulates-brain-wiring\">may\nbe connected to how and why autism spectrum disorder<\/a> affects so many parts\nof the brain&#8217;s functioning.<\/li><li>A Utah legislator has introduced a bill to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sltrib.com\/news\/politics\/2020\/02\/13\/bill-seeks-block-arrests\/\">stop\nusurious lenders from jailing borrowers and seizing their bail money<\/a>.
