So far, SMU has backed <em>him<\/em>, and\nnot its players (who are unpaid, mind you). Here&#8217;s a crazy idea, though: why not\nhire a woman to coach a women&#8217;s sports team?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Trump Administration is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/secret-service-has-paid-rates-as-high-as-650-a-night-for-rooms-at-trumps-properties\/2020\/02\/06\/7f27a7c6-3ec5-11ea-8872-5df698785a4e_story.html?fbclid=IwAR3-waYnnITcYe6rxG-GbvnE-eOX1MgFXCkzbe1cxTuod5JWMfZAYSPxK98\">charging\nthe Secret Service exorbitant rates as high as $650\/night<\/a> to stay at\nTrump&#8217;s hotels, yet another example of how Republican members of the executive\nbranch are looting the American taxpayer.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An abortion cannot be &#8220;reversed,&#8221; but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2020\/01\/31\/abortion-advice-should-be-as-safe-as-abortion-itself\/\">six\nstates require that women seeking abortions receive counseling that this is\npossible<\/a>. There are also three times as many &#8220;pregnancy crisis\ncenters,&#8221; which somehow receive federal funding,&#8221; in the U.S. than\nabortion clinics. <em>STAT News<\/em> argues in this piece that abortion advice needs\nto be safe and evidence-based. The United States is not a theocracy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>US Bank came under (well-deserved) attack last\nweek after news spread that they had fired an employee for giving a stranded customer\n$20 on Christmas Eve so he could get home, and fired her supervisor as well.\nThey&#8217;ve said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/business\/2020\/02\/us-bank-offers-to-rehire-2-portland-workers-it-fired-for-helping-customer-on-christmas-eve.html\">they\noffered to re-hire both women<\/a>, although the first of the two says she still\nhasn&#8217;t received a formal offer or any apology for the way the company defamed\nher publicly.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&#8220;Attention residue&#8221; reduces our productivity\nand happiness. One proposed solution is to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/worklife\/article\/20200130-the-life-hack-to-reduce-admin-and-carve-out-downtime\">carve\nout GLYIO (Get Your Life In Order) times<\/a> during which you handle\nadministrative tasks, or work out, or do other things that are bothering you\nbecause they&#8217;re always on your mind or your to-do list.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Facebook group Stop Mandatory Vaccinations,\nwhich has 178,000 members, urged a mother who reported that her unvaccinated\nfour-year-old son had the flu not to give him TamiFlu. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/tech\/social-media\/facebook-anti-vaxxers-pushed-mom-not-give-her-son-tamiflu-n1131936\">He\ndied four days later<\/a>. Facebook is a dumpster fire of anti-vaccine bullshit\nand other conspiracy theories, and they simply do not care about the real-world\nconsequences of their choice to shield this content.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Facebook also doesn&#8217;t do anything to stop\nanti-vaxxers from flooding pro-vaccine advocates, such as pediatrician Nicole\nBaldwin (whose pro-vax TikTok video went viral in mid-January), with threats\nand hate comments. That&#8217;s why Shots Heard Round the World was formed <a href=\"https:\/\/codastory.com\/disinformation\/doctors-fighting-anti-vax-attacks\/\">to\nhelp pro-vaccine advocates fight back<\/a> against these armies of ignorance.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>C|Net has some advice on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/how-to\/google-keeps-a-scary-amount-of-data-on-you-heres-how-to-find-and-delete-it\/\">how\nto manage the information Google tracks about you<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The FCC did something good, for a change: They\nhave proposed a $13 million fine against a robocaller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/crime-and-courts\/2020\/01\/30\/fcc-fines-robocaller-scott-rhodes-spoofing-brooklyn-iowans-after-mollie-tibbetts-killed-2018\/2857470001\/\">who\nused the death of Mollie Tibbetts to spread white-supremacist messaging<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Miami, Florida, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/miami-is-the-most-vulnerable-coastal-city-worldwide\/\">the\nmost vulnerable coastal city in the world<\/a> as sea levels rise, yet Miami\nvoters chose a Republican mayor, and the state has two Republican Senators and\na Republican Governor \u2013 even though the GOP&#8217;s official stances on climate\nchange range from opposing regulations on fossil fuels to outright climate\ndenial.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I reviewed Matthew Walker&#8217;s book <em>Why We Sleep<\/em>\na few years ago and praised it; I listened to the audio version and it seemed\nto be well-sourced and backed by evidence.
