Here&#8217;s the one threat I can get behind: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recallaaronpersky.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\">an effort to recall Judge Persky<\/a>, which I&#8217;d hope you would sign and back if you live in Santa Clara County. <\/li>\n<li>Of course, it&#8217;s hard to get too optimistic when voters in Orange County <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/articles\/county-718594-steiner-orange.html\" target=\"_blank\">re-elected a judge censured for having sex with two law students in chambers<\/a>, as well as failing to recuse himself in a case where he had a conflict of interest.<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s a new restaurant in LA called Birdies that sells <a href=\"http:\/\/sprudge.com\/birdies-la-99820.html\" target=\"_blank\">fried chicken, donuts, and good coffee<\/a>. Why eat anywhere else in LA?<\/li>\n<li>The Appalachian tradition of <a href=\"http:\/\/gardenandgun.com\/blog\/vanishing-appalachian-bread-tradition\" target=\"_blank\">salt-rising bread<\/a>, fermented with <em>Clostridium perfringens<\/em>, a Gram-positive bacterium that causes food poisoning, is vanishing. Baking kills the bacteria, of course.<\/li>\n<li>Angola&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-africa-36457637\" target=\"_blank\">bushmeat markets<\/a> are alive and well, even though they&#8217;re illegal.<\/li>\n<li>A Twitter user who was harassed by vaccine-denier assholes ended up <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@noupside\/how-to-not-protect-your-users-77d87871d716#.g4fsirtz1\" target=\"_blank\">having Twitter give them her home address<\/a> as she tried to get the site to take down photos of her infant child that the harassers were using. (I looked up two of the main harassers; one I&#8217;d already blocked, the other had blocked me.) <\/li>\n<li>Some actual good news on the vaccine front: researchers have developed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2016\/06\/160611125403.htm#.V1zRTfvZ34E.twitter\" target=\"_blank\">the first vaccine for toxic shock syndrome<\/a>, a dangerous type of staph infection, and the FDA has approved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/NewsEvents\/Newsroom\/PressAnnouncements\/ucm506305.htm\" target=\"_blank\">a new cholera vaccine for travelers to affected areas<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Also, we&#8217;re cranking up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com\/story\/opinion\/columnists\/2016\/06\/07\/column-meningitis-vaccine-now-required-students\/85339164\/\" target=\"_blank\">requirements for the meningitis B vaccine<\/a>, which is particularly recommended for adolescents and college students. If you&#8217;ve got a kid going to college, make sure s\/he has gotten this shot.<\/li>\n<li>Donald Trump is being sued many times over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2016\/06\/09\/donald-trump-unpaid-bills-republican-president-laswuits\/85297274\/\" target=\"_blank\">for not paying tradesworkers and employees<\/a>, as well as numerous other liens for back pay. <\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bonappetit.com\/test-kitchen\/ingredients\/article\/japanese-knotweed-recipes?mbid=social_twitter\" target=\"_blank\">Japanese knotweed<\/a> is the hot new ingredient in kitchens, and since it&#8217;s a destructive, invasive plant, no one has to worry about sustainability.<\/li>\n<li>Some parenting anti-tips on <a href=\"http:\/\/everydayfeminism.com\/2016\/05\/teaching-consent-doesnt-matter\/#.V1QJ9BabCYs.twitter\" target=\"_blank\">how to teach your daughters that their consent doesn&#8217;t matter<\/a>. <\/li>\n<li>Scientists have found antibiotic-resistant &#8220;super bacteria&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-olympics-rio-superbacteria-exclusive-idUSKCN0YW2E8\" target=\"_blank\">pretty much everywhere in Rio<\/a>. These Olympics might be an all-time disaster, and no one who matters seems to be willing to entertain the possibility of moving or canceling the games.
