I was unable to chat this week due to travel and attending games in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>And now, the links&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Well this is some bullshit: The Tribeca film festival is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2016\/3\/25\/11306458\/tribeca-film-festival-anti-vaccine-documentary-robert-deniro\" target=\"_blank\">screening a vaccine-denial &#8220;documentary&#8221; directed by Andrew Wakefield<\/a>. Yes, Wakefield, the guy who faked the MMR\/autism study that helped land us in this mess in the first place. Fuck you, Robert Deniro, for being a denialist and spreading this garbage.<\/li>\n<li>Meanwhile, Uganda will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-africa-35898715\">jail parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Drew Magary on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/why-ill-never-quit-twitter?mbid=social_twitter\" target=\"_blank\">why he&#8217;ll never quit Twitter<\/a>. It&#8217;s the same reason I probably won&#8217;t either: We have audiences there, and tweeting to those audiences gets people to read our writing.<\/li>\n<li>Patrick Saunders of the <em>Denver Post<\/em> wrote a piece on Tyler Matzek and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/psaunders\/ci_29662329\/matzek-far-from-alone-his-fight\" target=\"_blank\">how they&#8217;re both battling anxiety disorder<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Under Crazy Scott Walker, the state of Wisconsin gutted tenure at public universities, which led to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/life\/education\/2016\/03\/university_of_wisconsin_and_the_aftermath_of_destroying_professor_tenure.html?wpsrc=sh_all_dt_tw_ru\" target=\"_blank\">foreseeable yet unforeseen consequences at UW-Madison<\/a>. Tenure is a bad system, but Wisconsin replaced it with something worse.<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Atlantic<\/em> points out how the Republican party, which professes to be the party of business, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2016\/03\/the-backlash-to-north-carolinas-lgbt-non-discrimination-ban\/475500\/\" target=\"_blank\">passed a law businesses hate this week, just to screw with gay people<\/a>. If your bigotry runs that deep, then you&#8217;re not the party of business \u2013 and you&#8217;re going to let the Democrats, long seen as the party of higher taxes and more regulations, seize some of that reputation.<\/li>\n<li>There might be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.co.uk\/news\/archive\/2016-03\/17\/dengue-vaccine-human-trial-complete-protection\" target=\"_blank\">a vaccine for dengue fever<\/a> \u2013 which kills over 10,000 people each year \u2013 on the horizon, and that in turn could lead to a vaccine for the related Zika virus.<\/li>\n<li>I loved this <em>NY Times<\/em> profile of <a href=\"http:\/\/mobile.nytimes.com\/2016\/03\/20\/fashion\/natalie-wood-natasha-gregson-wagner.html?referer=&#038;_r=1\" target=\"_blank\">both Natasha Gregson-Wagner and her mother Natalie Wood<\/a>. I remember watching the atrocious <em>Two Girls and a Guy<\/em> and finding it totally ridiculous that Gregson-Wagner was supposed to be playing the unattractive (or at least less attractive) girlfriend.<\/li>\n<li>Reader Reggie passed along this interesting piece on <a href=\"http:\/\/jamesclear.com\/evolution-of-anxiety\" target=\"_blank\">our brains&#8217; evolution may be related to anxiety<\/a>, in that our brains evolved (he uses the &#8220;were designed for&#8221; phrasing, which isn&#8217;t scientifically accurate) to handle a different type of stress than we typically face today. I also recommend the site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sicknotweak.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sick Not Weak<\/a>, founded by TSN personality Michael Lansberg to promote understanding of mental illness, including depression and anxiety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My one Insider piece this week covers my breakout player picks for 2016.
