Pujols was listed on every ballot, but one voter had him seventh. That was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/blogs\/sports\/34594194.html\">Milwaukee writer Tom Haudricourt<\/a>, who put Howard first and had Sabathia and Fielder ahead of Pujols, as well as three Brewers in his ten names.<br \/>\n2. Someone omitted Ryan Howard entirely. That was <i>Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star<\/i> writer <a href=http:\/\/fredericksburg.com\/blogs\/view?blogger_id=34>Rich Campbell<\/a>, who covers the Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll save other thoughts on the results of this vote &#8211; and tomorrow&#8217;s, which should be really interesting &#8211; for <a href=\"http:\/\/proxy.espn.go.com\/chat\/chatESPN?event_id=23724\">my chat this Thursday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/mlb.mlb.com\/news\/article.jsp?ymd=20081110&#038;content_id=3673053&#038;vkey=news_mlb&#038;fext=.jsp&#038;c_id=mlb>Edinson Volquez appears on three NL Rookie of the Year ballots<\/a>, even though he&#8217;s not a rookie. It wasn&#8217;t even something esoteric like the days-on-the-roster rule; he threw 80 innings for Texas prior to 2008, and the cutoff is 50.<\/p>\n<p>I think the truth about my rejected membership is that I failed the board&#8217;s intelligence test &#8211; I have some.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: The three voters who included Volquez were <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nj.com\/ledgermets\/about.html\">Jeremy Cothran<\/a> of the <i>Newark Star-Ledger<\/i>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.klimaink.com\/about\/index.html\">John Klima<\/a> of the <i>Los Angeles Daily News<\/i>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nctimes.com\/sports\/paris\/\">Jay Paris<\/a> of the <i>North County Times<\/i> in San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>Other &#8211; um, harsher &#8211; takes: <a href=http:\/\/www.dugoutcentral.com\/blog\/?p=2041>Dugout Central<\/a>, <a href=http:\/\/slanchreport.com\/2008\/11\/11\/way-to-go-bbwaa\/>The Slanch Report<\/a>,  <a href=http:\/\/shysterball.blogspot.com\/2008\/11\/volquez-three.html>Shysterball<\/a>, <a href=http:\/\/www.epiccarnival.com\/2008\/11\/edinson-volquez-finished-4th-in-nl-roy.html>Epic Carnival<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mlb.fanhouse.com\/2008\/11\/11\/bbwaa-writers-place-non-rookie-fourth-in-rookie-of-the-year-voti\/\">Fanhouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/www.baseballwriters.org\/awards\/2008\/2008_AL_mvp.html>It&#8217;s Pedroia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Named on 27 of 28 ballots &#8230; not sure how I feel about his omission. It could go either way &#8211; an anti-stathead\/anti-twerp vote, or someone like antone, who looks at production (but not versus replacement-level?) and sees Pedroia&#8217;s production as not really MVP-caliber.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: Just found <a href=http:\/\/infinitetheorem.blogspot.com\/2008\/11\/bbwaa-cant-win.html>this fisking<\/a> of Paul Sheridan&#8217;s anti-intellectual whine today about Ryan Howard not winning the NL MVP award.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE #2: Evan Grant is the one voter who didn&#8217;t include Pedroia, and he said he&#8217;ll try to blog about his ballot later today.
