Of course, the headline could have just said \u201cHarvard,\u201d but \u201cthe Halls of Harvard\u201d sounds so much more Norse-mythological.<\/li>\n<li>Via <a href=https:\/\/twitter.com\/richarddeitsch>Richard Deitsch<\/a> on Twitter, a powerful post from writer Jeff Benedict on <a href=http:\/\/www.jeffbenedict.com\/index.php\/blog\/35-blog\/387-hands-off-my-sister>getting his sister out of an abusive marriage<\/a>. Not for the faint of heart.<\/li>\n<li>Economist Paul Krugman takes aim at <a href=http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/10\/20\/opinion\/paul-krugman-amazons-monopsony-is-not-ok.html?ref=todayspaper&#038;_r=0>Amazon&#8217;s monopsony in e-book retailing<\/a>. I sort of agree, and I sort of disagree. It&#8217;s a complicated question because there&#8217;s not much evidence Amazon is harming consumers, which is usually the standard for evaluating anticompetitive practices.<\/li>\n<li>Vegas Watch <a href=http:\/\/www.vegaswatch.org\/2014\/10\/the-long-con-of-rjinvegas-terndz-part.html>summarized my perplexing Twitter conversation with RJ Bell<\/a>, where I couldn&#8217;t seem to get an answer to my question about whether record against the spread (ATS) has any predictive value. (It doesn&#8217;t.)<\/li>\n<li>Biochemist and food writer (and frequent <i>Good Eats<\/i> guest star) Shirley Corriher <a href=http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/thesalt\/2014\/10\/24\/358264756\/a-wisecracking-biochemist-shares-her-kitchen-abcs>talks food science<\/a> with NPR&#8217;s The Salt.<\/li>\n<li>The Verge looks at how <a href=http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2014\/10\/22\/7028983\/fake-news-sites-are-using-facebook-to-spread-ebola-panic>crappy \u201csatire\u201d sites are spreading Ebola panic<\/a>.
