Coli infection<\/em>. California has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/california-raw-milk-regulation-emily-marris-moonlight-ridge-farm\">done nothing to the unlicensed dairy that sold the toxic liquid<\/a>. No one even seems to expect the chiropractor to face any consequences; the quack\u2019s office banned the mother from the Facebook group it runs when she explained what happened to her daughter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The New York Times<\/em> looks at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/09\/13\/business\/guidepost-montessori-higher-ground-education-ray-girn.html?unlocked_article_code=1.FlE.7fZn.s0KWvF5S626P&amp;smid=url-share\">the collapse of a massive for-profit Montessori school chain<\/a> that they call a Ponzi scheme, where the founders walked away scot-free and have already founded another school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The<\/em> <em>Texas Tribune<\/em> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2026\/09\/28\/houston-ice-lorenzo-salgado-araujo-shooter-identified\/\">identified Gregory Feathers as the ICE agent who shot and killed<\/a> Lorenzo Salgado Aruajo in Houston this summer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We all got a good laugh at the clownery of Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) this week when he accused Jack Smith of being at an Atlanta Hawks game when Smith was actually at an Iowa Hawkeyes game. <em>The<\/em> <em>St. Louis Post-Dispatch<\/em>\u2019s Tony Messenger uses this to expose Schmitt\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/column\/tony-messenger\/article_64235af2-e2cd-4dc4-a65b-372a0be2945c.html\">ridiculous state lawsuit against China for supposedly hoarding masks during the pandemic<\/a> \u2013 masks Schmitt claims don\u2019t work, by the way \u2013 which is costing Missouri taxpayers millions of dollars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2026\/sep\/28\/dengue-fever-cases-florida-counties\">a dengue fever outbreak in Florida<\/a>, perhaps the worst-equipped state to deal with a public health crisis. These ads are illegal, by the way, almost certainly violating the Hatch Act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A 14-year-old boy in England chased a girl who refused to date him through a shopping area and then stabbed her. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c6lyr92k0827o\">He received probation<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Cut has the scoop on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecut.com\/article\/cornell-daily-sun-students-interview-cornell-seven-lawsuit.html\">how student journalists at Cornell broke open the story on the Chi Phi rape case<\/a>, and a story written by Professor Kate Manne on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecut.com\/article\/what-it-feels-like-at-cornell-right-now.html\">the environment at Cornell right now<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tennessee was so eager to kill Christa Pike that they botched the execution, leaving her unconscious and on life support. It\u2019s an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2026\/10\/02\/einf-o02.html\">indictment of every state that still uses the death penalty and everyone who supports this barbaric practice<\/a>. Capital punishment is state-sponsored vengeance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latfusa.com\/article\/2026\/09\/newsom-signs-bill-to-incentivize-media-to-hire-journalists\">California has passed a law to subsidize local journalism<\/a>, offering large tax incentives for outlets that hire new journalists in full or even part-time roles. The article praises Gov. Newsom for signing it, but this is a rare win for Newsom after he\u2019s vetoed all kinds of bills designed at protecting Californians from Trumpism, including a bill that would have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/politics\/2026\/09\/newsom-vetoes-bill-that-would-ban-extraditions-for-abortion-and-gender-affirming-care\/\">protected medical providers there from prosecution by red states over abortion or gender-affirming care<\/a>, and just the other day a bill <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/10\/01\/california-governor-vetoes-bill-banning-use-of-pervert-glasses-to-secretly-record-people\/\">that would have banned the use of \u2018pervert glasses\u2019 and other secret recording devices<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Express-News c<\/em>olumnist Mike Finger (a longtime reader as well) writes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/sports\/spurs\/article\/kalshi-polymarket-prediction-markets-sports-bet-22447817.php?utm_source=marketing&amp;utm_medium=copy-url-link&amp;utm_campaign=article-share&amp;hash=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZXhwcmVzc25ld3MuY29tL3Nwb3J0cy9zcHVycy9hcnRpY2xlL2thbHNoaS1wb2x5bWFya2V0LXByZWRpY3Rpb24tbWFya2V0cy1zcG9ydHMtYmV0LTIyNDQ3ODE3LnBocA%3D%3D&amp;time=MTc5MDg3NTQ3MzM2MA%3D%3D&amp;rid=ZjRhMTRlOTEtNjM4OS00NzEzLTg4OTItNTE1NDI1NGZiZGE0&amp;sharecount=MQ%3D%3D\">how NBA stars are lining up to endorse gambling sites at their fans\u2019 expense<\/a>. Of course, now the CFTC is suing states that are trying to block the probably-illegal gambling operations of Kalshi and Polymarket <a href=\"https:\/\/readsludge.com\/2026\/09\/28\/trumps-cftc-is-suing-states-for-kalshi-and-polymarket-backed-by-trump-jr\/\">because Donald Trump Jr. is an investor in the latter<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ravenous looks at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weareravenous.com\/the-curious-case-of-the-soulless-private-equity-cookie\/\">private equity-backed cookie chains like Insomnia and Crumbl<\/a>, where the cookies are mid at best but the profits are huge. The obvious message: Find a local bakery. They\u2019re everywhere, the cookies will be better, and you\u2019ll be doing more good with your money.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Todd Rundgren got the attention he sought when he claimed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/music\/taylor-swift\/todd-rundgren-claims-that-taylor-swift-ruined-music\">Taylor Swift has ruined music<\/a>. I\u2019m not a Swiftie at all \u2013 I think she might have two songs I like \u2013 but this is some serious old-man-yells-at-cloud stuff. The flattening of popular music is driven by technology and by rudimentary capitalism, not by any one artist, who, by the way, is far from the worst out there (like, has he heard Stella Lefty?).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickondetroit.com\/news\/local\/2026\/06\/18\/why-a-sexual-abuse-case-against-a-washtenaw-county-church-leader-keeps-growing-even-after-60-felony-charges\/\">a church leader in Michigan is still under investigation for abusing dozens of children<\/a>, with over 60 felony charges and counting. No trans people were charged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MAGA podcaster and noted plagiarist Benny Johnson is now being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/news\/benny-johnson-sued-defamation-ice-videos-protesters-terrorists\">sued by two anti-ICE protesters he labelled as \u201cterrorists.\u201d<\/a> Good.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>While arguing with the president of the local Building Trades Countil in a bar in his home district, Pennsylvania Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennlive.com\/politics\/2026\/10\/pa-house-member-hurled-slurs-about-a-gay-lawmaker-at-a-crowded-harrisburg-bar.html\">shouted a gay slur about his colleague Malcolm Kenyatta (D) and falsely claimed that Kenyatta has AIDS<\/a>. Kenyatta has <a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/post\/rep-malcolm-kenyatta-calls-resignation-fellow-lawmaker-aaron-bernstine-alleged-homophobic-slurs\/19902023\/\">called on Bernstine to resign<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A reader sent along this story about a controversy in the wine-writing world as <a href=\"https:\/\/henryjeffreys.substack.com\/p\/ai-row-breaks-out-at-wine-writing\">the winner of the Pall Mall Awards\u2019 short-form category was probably written by or with AI<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Phil Williams points out how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.confrontthehate.com\/p\/exclusive-neo-nazi-publisher-finds?r=lqg2p&amp;utm_campaign=post&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;triedRedirect=true\">a publisher of white nationalist books is happily selling its content on Amazon<\/a> and, until he called them out, via Target.
