I also posted a minor-league scouting notebook that covered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7308143\/2026\/05\/26\/mlb-prospect-scouting-kyson-witherspoon-yoeilin-cespedes-kiefer-lord\/\">Kyson Witherspoon, Yoeilin Cespedes, and other Boston\/Baltimore prospects<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I sent out a new missive of <a href=\"https:\/\/keithlaw.kit.com\/\">my free email newsletter<\/a> last Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve continued posting baseball-related videos, mostly about the players I\u2019m going to see live, to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/mrkeithlaw\">Instagram<\/a> and <a href=\"tiktok.com\/@keith_law\">TikTok<\/a>. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) has been living secretly for a much-reduced rent payment at a house <a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanlarsen.substack.com\/p\/tom-suozzi-lives-at-c-street\">owned by the far-far-right Christian group The Fellowship<\/a>, which opposes labor rights and pushes wealth as somehow \u201cChristian.\u201d His primary opponent, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.votewelch.com\/\">Danielle Welch<\/a>, seems to have little chance of unseating him. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sports economist JC Bradbury shared this link about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.richmonder.org\/flying-squirrels-owner-sues-diamond-district-developer-over-heated-encounter-at-new-ballpark\/\">a fight between a developer and the owners of the Richmond Fighting Squirrels<\/a>, whose new stadium deal has, shocker, turned out to be a dud for the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The city of Nashville is promising a big return on its investment in hosting the Super Bowl, but <a href=\"https:\/\/tennesseelookout.com\/2026\/05\/28\/nashville-promises-massive-return-on-super-bowl-spending\/\">we know that\u2019s an empty claim<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ryan Fournier, co-founder of the astroturf group Students for Trump, was <a href=\"https:\/\/defector.com\/students-for-trump-chairman-ryan-fournier-arrest-domestic-violence\">arrested on domestic violence charges.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The New Republic<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/211111\/stephen-miller-wife-katie-doxed-paulina-mangubat-democrat-maga-rage\">spoke to Paulina Mangubat<\/a>, author of that iconic DNC reply tweet calling Stephen Miller an \u201cugly fuck\u201d \u2013 a charge he is not going to be able to escape any time soon \u2013 about how Miller\u2019s wife\u2019s choice to dox her has affected her life, and why she\u2019s not sorry for the tweet. It was a reply to Miller falsely labeling Senate candidate James Talarico as \u201ctransgender,\u201d because to MAGA, that\u2019s an insult. Meanwhile, the real issue is that Talarico\u2019s opponent, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/articles\/news\/criminal-justice\/2026\/05\/19\/552287\/ken-paxton-waco-plea-deal-child-sex-abuse-texas-attorney-general\/\">Ken Paxton, approved a plea deal that gave a serial child rapist one day in prison<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/25\/us\/politics\/artificial-intelliegence-courts.html\">AI is fueling a rise in \u201chome-brewed\u201d lawsuits<\/a> where plaintiffs use LLMs instead of lawyers, clogging up the court system. Futurism <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/ai-lawsuits-chaos-courts-lawyers\">covered this two months ago<\/a> as well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Commonwealth Prize, a British literary award that includes publication of winning stories in <em>Granta<\/em> magazine, is embroiled in controversy as one of its winners this year was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/books\/2026\/05\/granta-ai-fiction-book-scandal-changes-everything\/687243\/\">very likely produced largely with the help of AI<\/a>. That story, submitted by a writer from Trinidad named Jamir Nazir, was full of turgid prose that has inspired mockery online \u2013 but it\u2019s also true that these AI \u201cdetectors\u201d aren\u2019t necessarily trained on different styles of prose, such as that from non-native speakers or those from regions where their English dialect varies from British or American English. Meanwhile \u2013 and probably not coincidentally \u2013 the Afro-Caribbean author Chanel Sutherland is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/culture\/books\/article-author-chanel-sutherland-commonwealth-prize-descend-ai-detector\/\">now having to defend her work as not AI-generated<\/a> after that same AI detection program (mentioned in the <em>Atlantic<\/em> piece) claimed her Commonwealth Prize-winning story was the product of AI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Another person who was penalized for comments about Charlie Kirk after his death <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/charlie-kirk-settlement-fired-ball-state-swierc-fea3b5fd2587a5d5dc2eab2daf44bbff?utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email\">has won compensation after a lawsuit<\/a>. Suzanne Swierc posted on her private Facebook account that his death was a \u201ctragedy\u201d but the killing was \u201ca reflection of the violence, fear, and hatred he sowed,\u201d after which Ball State fired her. The University settled the suit, which alleged that the school violated her First Amendment rights, arguing that it was cheaper than fighting it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Shark Tank<\/em>\u2019s Kevin O\u2019Leary is trying to build an enormous data center that would be two and a half times the size of Manhattan in Utah, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ms.now\/news\/news-analysis\/utah-data-center-ai-kevin-oleary-tucker-carlson-referendum\">people on the left and right are opposing it<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Washington state, a sketchy clean-energy storage project to be build on land sacred to the Yakama peoples is <a href=\"https:\/\/oregoncapitalchronicle.com\/2026\/05\/25\/going-green-now-for-who-yakama-protest-clean-energy-project-on-sacred-site-to-power-data-center\/\">actually going to help power new data centers<\/a>. From this story: \u201cThere is no sign the project is needed to provide more power to meet growing local energy demand in Klickitat County.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wilmington mayor John Carney (D), formerly our governor and at-large Congressman, <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/wilmington-homelessness-carney-protesters\/\">closed the city\u2019s only permitted encampment for homeless people<\/a> over protests that the city government told these people to move there in the first place.
