I\u2019m very worried about what I saw from Carson Benge. I also held a <a href=\"https:\/\/meadowparty.com\/blog\/2025\/04\/24\/klawchat-4-24-25\/\">Klawchat<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve updated the <a href=\"https:\/\/meadowparty.com\/blog\/2025\/04\/25\/top-50-pizzerias-2025-update\/\">top 50 pizzerias post<\/a> from yesterday to reflect two places that closed (one just within the last five months).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, the links\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/21\/us\/harvard-lawsuit-trump-administration.html\">Harvard is fighting back<\/a>, suing the Trump Administration over the latter\u2019s (likely illegal) attempts to cut funding to research programs the school conducts on behalf of the government. The <em>Times<\/em> has more on the conservative twits on the Harvard Board of Oversees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/22\/business\/harvard-trump-deal.html\">who wanted to make a deal with Trump<\/a> \u2013 even though Columbia tried that and it got them nothing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Vox has the story of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/climate\/408381\/energy-transition-renewables-grid-scale-energy-storage-giant-batteries?PAVED-2025_04_24=&amp;category=fascinating_stories&amp;position=1&amp;scheduled_corpus_item_id=1a24b914-f5ba-4b74-a97a-02ce7c1e900f&amp;sponsored=0&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vox.com%2Fclimate%2F408381%2Fenergy-transition-renewables-grid-scale-energy-storage-giant-batteries\">grid-scale batteries<\/a> and how they might help green energy sources replace more fossil fuels \u2026 if the Administration doesn\u2019t stop it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The damage from President Trump\u2019s irrational and ever-changing tariff \u2026 uh, are they even policies? \u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/prospect.org\/economy\/2025-04-24-permanent-tariff-damage\/\">may be irreparable<\/a> and will certainly last well beyond his term.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trump has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/trump-deport-child-cancer-us-citizen-1235325778\/\">also deported at least two U.S. citizen children with cancer<\/a>. This appears to be on top of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/25\/us\/politics\/us-citizen-deported.html\">illegal deportation of a two-year-old girl<\/a>, also a citizen, with \u201cno meaningful process\u201d in the words of a federal judge in Louisiana.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It looks like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/04\/24\/nx-s1-5368535\/ron-desantis-florida-governor-political-scandal\">may have misappropriated public funds<\/a>, moving $10 million earmarked for \u2026 into his personal campaign fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A former Tesla engineer says that when she pointed out a safety issue with the breaks in the company\u2019s cars, <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/tesla-engineer-elon-musk-deport-team-safety\">Elon Musk threatened to deport members of her team<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mississippi was on a heater last week in its effort to prove it\u2019s the most backward state in the union. Their Supreme Court ruled that a transgender teen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advocate.com\/law\/mississippi-transgender-teen-name-change\">can\u2019t legally change their name until they\u2019re 21<\/a>, because that\u2019s the age of majority in that state. (For reference, the age of consent in Mississippi is 16. Real consistent there, fellas.) And then their Governor declared April <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississippifreepress.org\/mississippi-governor-declares-april-2025-as-confederate-heritage-month\/\">Loser Heritage Month<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The Guardian<\/em> has a story on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2025\/apr\/22\/rfk-jr-baseball-comments-tarik-el-abour\">former Royals minor leaguer Tarik El-Abour<\/a>, who played four games in the Arizona Rookie League in 2018, making him the first player in the history of affiliated ball who was known to be autistic. (I don\u2019t know what the best phrasing is for that, but I hope the point is clear.) El-Abour responds to the hateful, ignorant comments from the Secretary of Health and Human Services where he painted autistic people as a burden on society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A group of scientists have banded together to form the Vaccine Integrity Project with the goal of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/content\/article\/vaccine-experts-band-together-counter-u-s-government-misinformation\">countering vaccine misinformation coming from our own federal government<\/a>. It comes as the Administration replaced the official site for information on COVID-19 with a page promoting the debunked lab-leak theory of its origins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Texas\u2019s House passed a school vouchers bill <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasobserver.org\/abbott-trump-house-vouchers-pass\/\">despite broad opposition from the public<\/a>, because Trump bullied a number of legislators into voting for Gov. Abbott\u2019s pet project. The program seems very likely to drain funds from public schools that need it and allow wealthy Texans to send their kids to private schools on the taxpayers\u2019 dime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The six brownshirts who forcibly removed a woman from a town hall in Idaho last month <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kivitv.com\/news\/six-men-charged-after-forcibly-removing-woman-from-north-idaho-town-hall\">have been charged with various crimes<\/a>, five of them with battery and four with false imprisonment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Two German backpackers were handcuffed, held in dirty holding cells, and deported from Hawai\u2019i <a href=\"https:\/\/beatofhawaii.com\/why-these-hawaii-travelers-were-jailed-and-deported\/\">because customs officers thought they were sneaking into the U.S. to work<\/a>. Travel into the U.S. from overseas is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/my-europe\/2025\/04\/22\/tourism-boycott-europe-travel-to-us-drops-in-wake-of-trump-presidency\">tumbling<\/a>. I\u2019m not clear <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/us-economy-set-lose-billions-100000258.html\">how cutting the billions foreign tourists spend here<\/a> is supposed to help our economy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In a largely symbolic move, two Delaware legislators, including my representative Krista Griffith (D), introduced a bill <a href=\"https:\/\/www.delawarepublic.org\/politics-government\/2025-04-20\/delaware-lawmakers-introduce-bipartisan-legislation-to-limit-book-bans-in-schools-and-libraries\">to inhibit local attempts to ban books from school or public libraries<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thanks to the reader who pointed me to this <em>Times<\/em> story about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/19\/nyregion\/new-york-city-giant-game-night.html\">the massive monthly board game night<\/a> in NYC hosted by Richard Ye, which topped 500 people in March.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Greater than Games <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/board-games\/560850\/greater-than-games-suspends-operations-trump-tariffs\">has effectively shut down<\/a> as a result of President Trump\u2019s futile tariff war.
