I also held a <a href=\"https:\/\/meadowparty.com\/blog\/2025\/04\/02\/klawchat-4-2-25\/\">Klawchat<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, the links\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Longreads first: Sarah Harman writes about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elle.com\/culture\/books\/a64221845\/sarah-harman-motherhood-essay-2025\/\">how she spent years hiding the fact that she was a mother<\/a> from her colleagues and bosses at the TV network where she used to work because she understood the discrimination, overt and covert, that targets mothers and pregnant people in the workplace. It\u2019s especially sobering to read this when anti-discrimination laws are being rolled back willy-nilly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, a crank and anti-vaxxer, has a faculty post at the public University of Florida. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alligator.org\/article\/2025\/03\/ladapo-s-a-charlatan-florida-surgeon-general-s-tenure-at-uf-is-lackluster-colleagues-say\">He\u2019s barely done anything since he got the job<\/a>, according to an investigative report in <em>The Alligator<\/em>. I thought we were supposed to be rooting out corruption and waste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Republican judge in North Carolina ruled that 60,000 voters whose ballots have been challenged by the Republican who lost a Supreme Court election there in November have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/news\/politics-government\/article302923039.html\">just 15 days to prove their ballots are valid<\/a>. This is a blatant attempt to overturn a fair and free election. Stop the steal, folks. ProPublica wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/north-carolina-supreme-court-election-certification-blocked\">more about this case in January<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/02\/opinion\/trump-ice-immigrants.html\">We are now living in a police state<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/noem-travel-taxpayers-south-dakota-homeland-security-c2655e00a16d44bba46c60a14a638f5d\">South Dakota taxpayers ponied up over $600,000 to pay for then-Gov. Kristi Noem (R)\u2019s travel<\/a>, including a junket to Paris, a trip to Houston for cosmetic dental work, and a bear-hunting trip in Canada.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Canary Mission is a decade-old group that\u2019s been doxing university students and faculty they deem antisemitic, using whatever definition they want, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/01\/us\/israel-gaza-student-protests-canary-mission.html\">now ICE appears to be using their information to find deportation targets<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The UN says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/mar\/31\/israel-killed-15-palestinian-paramedics-and-rescue-workers-one-by-one-says-un?utm_source=pocket_shared\">Israel killed 15 Palestinian paramedics and rescue workers<\/a>, and then buried the evidence in a mass grave. They killed their victims one at a time. Israel, as always, claims they were terrorists. CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/03\/31\/middleeast\/aid-workers-found-gaza-mass-grave-intl-hnk\/index.html\">also reported on the story<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>The Guardian<\/em>\u2019s Timothy Snyder writes how JD Vance\u2019s ridiculous posturing in Greenland was more than just embarrassing \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2025\/mar\/31\/trump-greenland-us-morally-wrong-strategy-disastrous\">it was a huge strategic blunder<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) told a laid-off HHS employee that they \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/video\/fmr-hhs-employee-confronts-senator-236037701871\">probably deserved it.<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) quote-tweeted and mocked a trans woman, which of course <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepinknews.com\/2025\/03\/31\/nancy-mace-trans-viral-video-sabre\/\">sent a flood of hate the woman\u2019s way<\/a>. There was no reason for Mace to do this. It\u2019s just petty, hateful behavior from someone who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/nancy-mace-cites-god-bible-in-speech-accusing-ex-of-sex-crimes.html\">talks a lot about how much she loves Jesus<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/31\/business\/economy\/trump-research-cutbacks-economy.html\">The gutting of federal science agencies will likely have dire economic consequences<\/a>, warn many independent economists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Michigan woman was assaulted at work and reported it to the police. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2025\/03\/28\/she-told-michigan-cops-she-was-attacked-now-she-faces-deportation\/82491174007\/\">The police then alerted ICE that she was in the U.S. illegally<\/a>, and she\u2019s almost certainly going to be deported. If the police can do this, then people in the U.S. without authorization won\u2019t go to the police when they\u2019re victims of crime, and that makes them perfect targets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A curbside happy hour that started in the pandemic in DelCo, Pennsylvania, <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/delco-lansdowne-pennsylvania-curbside-social-distancing\/\">is still going strong five years later<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>That left-leaning tabloid \u2026 uh, <em>The Economist<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.economist.com\/leaders\/2025\/04\/03\/president-trumps-mindless-tariffs-will-cause-economic-havoc\">described Trump\u2019s tariffs as \u201cmindless\u201d<\/a> and said they\u2019ll cause \u201ceconomic havoc.\u201d I mean, yeah. Any first-year econ student could tell you they\u2019re going to hurt the U.S. more than anyone else.
