I also put together a post (with my editor\u2019s help) with the preseason scouting reports and a sentence or two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6233143\/2025\/03\/27\/mlb-top-prospects-opening-day-rosters-outlook\/\">on the 2025 outlook for all top 100 &amp; just missed guys who made Opening Day rosters<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Paste, I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/games\/board-games\/ticket-to-ride-legacy-legends-of-the-west-proves-theres-still-life-in-legacy-games\">reviewed the Ticket to Ride legacy game<\/a>, Legends of the Old West, which is one of the best legacy games I\u2019ve tried. It\u2019s true to the original game and doesn\u2019t load it up with too many new rules or twists (there are some, of course).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/now\/video\/2025-mlb-season-begins-can-the-dodgers-be-beaten-235528773547\">NBC News This Morning<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/03\/27\/nx-s1-5342505\/root-root-root-for-opening-day-what-the-upcoming-season-looks-like-for-mlb\">NPR\u2019s All Things Considered<\/a> on Thursday to discuss Opening Day and the upcoming MLB season; I was also on CNN that evening but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s online. I also <a href=\"https:\/\/post.futurimedia.com\/whbcam\/playlist\/23\/listen-11817.html?cb=1743196011.471585\">discussed the Guardians on WHBC 1480<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, the links\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Longreads first: ProPublica reports on how a gay man in Idaho built a following on Telegram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/matthew-allison-dj-terrogram-collective-boise-dallas-humber\">that encouraged followers to kill LGBTQ+ people<\/a> and commit acts of terror in the name of white nationalism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/mar\/29\/florida-republicans-immigrant-jobs-child-labor\">Florida is going to make it easier for companies to employ and exploit children<\/a> now that the rush to deport immigrants is hitting the state\u2019s work force.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Three senior partners at the law firm Keker, Van Nest &amp; Peters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/30\/opinion\/perkins-coie-trump.htm\">exhort other law firms to join them in fighting the Trump Administration<\/a> in an op ed in the <em>New York Times<\/em>, coming in the wake of two major firms completely capitulating to the President and his vindictive executive orders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My alma mater, with over $50 billion in its endowment and quite a few alumni in powerful positions around the world, also bent the knee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2025\/3\/29\/harvard-cmes-director-departure\/\">by dismissing the leaders of its Center for Middle Eastern Studies<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hamilton Nolan writes in his Substack that the federal government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hamiltonnolan.com\/p\/they-are-going-to-take-everything\">is going to destroy labor unions if we don\u2019t stop them<\/a>, after Trump signed an executive order (which, to be clear, is just that, not a law) saying the federal government won\u2019t recognize the unions that represent most of its employees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Republicans in North Carolina continue their legal fight to steal a state Supreme Court seat, arguing that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/the-right-to-vote-is-not-absolute-gop-bid-to-steal-north-carolina-supreme-court-election-heard-by-court-of-appeals\/\">the right to vote is not absolute<\/a> as they try to invalidate over 65,000 votes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Arizonans voted in November to protect reproductive rights, but Republicans in their legislature don\u2019t care and are trying a backdoor method to defund clinics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jezebel.com\/even-after-arizonans-voted-for-abortion-rights-the-state-gop-wants-to-defund-clinics-that-discuss-it\">by preventing them from even <em>discussing<\/em> abortion as an option with patients<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/grieving-husband-says-reckless-texas-abortion-law-led-to-pregnant-wifes-death\/\">Another pregnant woman died in Texas<\/a> because the state\u2019s abortion ban meant doctors couldn\u2019t perform a procedure to save her life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newschannel5.com\/news\/newschannel-5-investigates\/questions-about-congressmans-campaign-spending-mysterious-companies-bogus-addresses\">Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) appears to have spent campaign money on businesses that don\u2019t exist<\/a>, just the latest in a series of financial improprieties uncovered by Phil Williams at Nashville\u2019s NewsChannel 5. Williams previously reported on how Ogles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newschannel5.com\/news\/newschannel-5-investigates\/businessman-economist-cop-international-sex-crimes-expert-the-stories-of-congressman-andy-ogles\">fabricated details of his resume and background<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An immigrant to the United States appears to have broken Wisconsin law <a href=\"https:\/\/electionlawblog.org\/?p=149196\">by offering $1 million via a lottery to anyone who voted in the state\u2019s Supreme Court race<\/a>. Unfortunately a judge in that state <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/wisconsin-supreme-court-musk-million-dollar-checks-43fa79215e16c333a1079a86cb9aab08\">denied the Attorney General\u2019s request<\/a> for an emergency injunction to stop the lottery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A barber in Texas who came to the United States from Liberia when he was two years old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.11alive.com\/article\/news\/special-reports\/11alive-exclusives\/georgia-barber-ice-arrest\/85-127a6368-92d0-4950-98a1-238cd0a3eaff\">is now facing deportation to that country<\/a> because he committed a crime for which he was pardoned. ICE also arrested and detained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/law-justice\/ice-arrests-wa-farmworker-activist-in-sedro-woolley\/\">an indigenous Mexican farmworker and activist in Washington<\/a>, allegedly because of his activism, although in his case ICE claims he was ordered to leave the country by a judge in 2018.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At Objective Journalism, James Salanga argues that authorities in the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/objectivejournalism.org\/2025\/03\/government-attacks-on-palestinian-human-rights-speech-are-part-of-a-longer-pattern\/\">have always treated speech in favor of Palestinians\u2019 rights differently than other forms of speech<\/a>, whether it\u2019s the federal government, universities, or journalistic outlets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mathematicians solved another century-old puzzle, this one on whether you can divide a triangle into fewer than four pieces and assemble those into a square. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/mathematicians-find-proof-to-122-year-old-triangle-to-square-puzzle\/\">The answer is that you can\u2019t<\/a> \u2013 four is the lowest number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For subscribers to the Athletic, I posted my annual just-for-fun predictions column and a roundup of a few prospects I saw on the back fields in Florida this week.
