I also held a <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3EOD2ce\">Klawchat<\/a> here on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming up, I\u2019ll have my ranking of the top prospects for impact in 2025 on Monday, plus a draft scouting notebook from this weekend probably Tuesday, and then I believe my first ranking of draft prospects will go up around March 5<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also sign up for <a href=\"https:\/\/keithlaw.substack.com\/\">my free email newsletter<\/a>, which didn&#8217;t go out this week because I was recovering from some sort of respiratory infection that wasn&#8217;t flu or COVID but still sucked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, the links\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The so-called SAVE Act <a href=\"https:\/\/indivisibleteam.medium.com\/maga-has-a-bill-that-would-disenfranchise-someone-you-know-64cf24d0fcf5\">is a backdoor way to make it impossible for millions of women to vote<\/a>, because they took their husbands\u2019 surnames or have otherwise changed their names so that they no longer match those on their birth certificates. Democrats should be lying in front of the steamrollers to stop this one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Epidemiologist Gregg Gonsalves wrote an editorial in <em>The<\/em> <em>New York Times<\/em> about how RFK Jr.\u2019s bullshit \u201cjust asking questions\u201d line <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/02\/13\/opinion\/kennedys-views-on-science-are-too-dangerous-for-us-to-accept.html\">led to over 300,000 preventable deaths in South Africa<\/a>, when that country\u2019s leader was a rabid HIV denialist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The President of the American Association of University Professors wrote an open letter stating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaup.org\/news\/aaup-president-eds-office-civil-rights-has-declared-war-american-civil-rights-education\">that the Department of Education\u2019s Office of Civil Rights has declared war on civil rights in our education system<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A prosecutor for ICE has been running <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasobserver.org\/ice-prosecutor-dallas-white-supremacist-x-account\/\">a Twitter account that\u2019s made highly racist, xenophobic, and white nationalist comments for a decade<\/a>. He\u2019s still employed by ICE as an attorney as of this writing; I\u2019m surprised he hasn\u2019t been promoted or transferred to DOGE.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>SFGate<\/em> reports on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/california-parks\/article\/yosemite-national-park-in-chaos-20163260.php\">the chaos at Yosemite National Park<\/a> after DOGE did its thing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/191421\/trump-emigration-wave-brain-drain\">Many Americans are leaving the country for good<\/a>, or at least for the foreseeable future, as the new Administration is slashing and burning through science and other federal budgets while threatening a level of authoritarianism never seen in this country. I don\u2019t blame them one bit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meanwhile, the Administration is flouting federal rulings ordering them to release promised funding for NIH grants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetransmitter.org\/funding\/federal-register-hold-makes-end-run-around-court-pause-on-nih-funding-freeze?utm_source=bsky&amp;utm_medium=org-social&amp;utm_campaign=20250218-federal-register-hold-makes-end-run-around-court-pause-on-nih-funding-freeze\/\">by refusing to submit notes to the Federal Register<\/a>, which is required to release the funds.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Such federal grants help fund studies like this one at the University of Southern Mississippi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mississippifreepress.org\/mississippi-researchers-investigate-growing-tick-borne-allergy-to-red-meat\/\">into the causes of the tick-borne \u2018red meat allergy\u2019<\/a> that has been spreading across the United States, mostly in the south.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The great Elie Mystal asks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/politics\/eric-adams-hochul-resign\/\">how New Yorkers should solve the problem of Eric Adams<\/a>; the only acceptable answer has him removed from office, obviously.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Quite a coincidence \u2013 just as I was reading W.G. Sebald\u2019s novel <em>Austerlitz <\/em>(spoiler: I hated it), this damning review in the <em>Guardian<\/em> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2025\/feb\/07\/silent-catastrophes-by-wg-sebald-review-academic-writing-at-its-most-sterile\">a posthumous collection of Sebald\u2019s literary criticism<\/a> appeared.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A dam in Czechia was held up by red tape, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/02\/12\/world\/europe\/beavers-prague-czech-republic-dam.html\">so beavers went and finished it themselves<\/a>. I for one welcome our new beaver overlords.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The daughters of the late cofounder of Target <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/target-dei-anne-dayton-lucy-dayton-4ab0aaf017e5874dc0bb8588e2b65977\">spoke out against the company\u2019s decision to end DEI initiatives<\/a>, which have also led to a big drop in the company\u2019s share price.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The mayor and city council in Clarksdale, Mississippi, sued a local newspaper for publishing an accurate story on a secret vote that the council was required to announce to the public before holding. The paper took the editorial down, but <a href=\"http:\/\/hipcrimevocab.substack.com\/p\/clarksdale-mississippi-is-a-lawless\">other sites are publishing it<\/a> to get the word out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some board game Kickstarters of interest: Flatout Games has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/flatoutgames\/point-galaxy-propolis\">one for Point Galaxy, the third game in the Point Salad\/City series, along with a new small-box citybuilder called Propolis<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rock Manor Games has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/mikegnade\/stardriven-gateway\">one up for StarDriven: Gateway<\/a>, the second go-round after they pulled a campaign in the fall to tweak the game somewhat.
