The show is a half-hour look at prospects around the minors and for the draft, and will be followed by a show on collectibles where I\u2019ll also offer some comments on the prospects they\u2019re discussing. It starts with what seems to be an invitation to appear on a big podcast, which of course is very appealing to most people trying to build their online audience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Over half a million Arizonans signed a petition to <a href=\"https:\/\/coppercourier.com\/2024\/04\/05\/arizona-abortion-ballot-signatures-record\/\">put codifying abortion rights on the ballot this November<\/a>. It\u2019s part of a Democratic strategy to drive voters to the polls in purple states \u2013 and also, by the way, a basic human right. This comes on the heels of <a href=\"https:\/\/coppercourier.com\/2024\/04\/09\/arizona-total-abortion-ban\/?utm_source=pocket_saves\">the GOP-packed Arizona Supreme Court reinstating the state\u2019s 1864 abortion ban<\/a> \u2013 yes, a law that predates Arizona\u2019s statehood by almost 50 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <em>Guardian <\/em>revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/mar\/29\/boise-state-university-professor-scott-yenor-action-idaho\">Boise State Professor Scott Yenor ran Action Idaho, an extreme right-wing site<\/a> that attacked LGBTQ+ rights and accused Republicans of being insufficiently conservative. Yenor now also works for the Claremont Institute and just a month ago wrote a piece for the Federalist that said DEI had to die for Western civilization to survive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ProPublica explains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/chinese-organized-crime-gift-cards-american-retail\">how authorities are trying to crack down on gift-card crime rings<\/a>, where consumers often end up buying gift cards that appear new but that have already been drained of value by crooks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maria Bustillos writes in <em>The Nation <\/em>about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/society\/journalist-run-media-flaming-hydra\/\">the rise of journalist-owned news outlets<\/a> amidst the ongoing bloodletting in the industry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>David Chang\u2019s Momofuku company is trying to trademark the generic term \u201cchili crunch\u201d to describe a staple Chinese condiment best known as chili crisp \u2013 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/food\/2024\/apr\/04\/chili-crunch-trademark-momofuku-david-chang\">they\u2019re suing smaller firms to try to have their way<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Why is Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R \u2013 and not the former pitcher) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/mar\/30\/media-matters-lawsuit-missouri-elon-musk\">doing the bidding of Elon Musk by suing Media Matters<\/a> for reporting on Twitter\u2019s failure to police hate on their site?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Voters in Enid, Oklahoma, <a href=\"https:\/\/kfor.com\/news\/local\/enid-voters-remove-city-commissioner-judd-blevins-in-recall-election\/\">removed Judd Blevins (R) from the city council<\/a> after his ties to white supremacist groups were exposed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The BBC has a first-person narrative from a woman who found deepfakes of herself online \u2013 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-68673390\">eventually learned it was a close friend of hers who made them<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This Twitter thread has some <a href=\"https:\/\/threadreaderapp.com\/thread\/1775115906005229807.html?utm_source=pocket_saves#google_vignette\">solid details on the IDF\u2019s attack on the World Central Kitchen convoy<\/a> in Gaza that killed seven WCK volunteers. I don\u2019t know why those seven deaths should lead to more calls for a cease-fire when the 30,000+ Palestinian deaths before that haven\u2019t \u2026 of course I do, let\u2019s not kid ourselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Marisa Kabas of The Handbasket reposted a piece from the <em>Kansas Reflector <\/em>critical of Meta\u2019s ad policy around climate change, and moments later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehandbasket.co\/p\/meta-the-handbasket-censorship-slay-giants\">Meta removed all links to both sites from Facebook and Threads<\/a>. I\u2019m not sure if I agree, but he at least offers a solid argument.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fox News and several right-wing podcasters, including beanie-wearing Tim Pool, are now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/fox-news-far-right-podcasters-sued-for-linking-wrong-man-to-neo-nazi-shooting_n_66182adbe4b00830e916c232\">facing a lawsuit from a man they all falsely identified as a mass shooter<\/a>. The man\u2019s lawyer previously represented two Sandy Hook parents in their lawsuit against Alex Jones for his false claims that that mass shooting didn\u2019t happen. Fuck \u2019em up, Socrates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <em>Tampa Bay Times <\/em>published a rare editorial pointing out that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/opinion\/2024\/04\/11\/will-subsidizing-tampa-bay-rays-new-stadium-deal-pay-off-taxpayers\/\">public subsidies for sports stadiums don\u2019t work out for taxpayers<\/a>, as the Rays try once again to soak Floridians for a new facility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/journalistsresource.org\/economics\/sports-stadium-public-financing\/\">Here\u2019s a great summary and index of economic research<\/a> showing how consistently these sports stadium deals fail to live up to economic promises. If you\u2019re writing about the topic, or know a journalist who is, this is invaluable, because the pro-stadium forces will always trot out fabricated numbers from consultants who give them what they want.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The PEN America awards are in a bit of a shambles after <a href=\"https:\/\/lithub.com\/withdrawals-and-protests-are-roiling-the-pen-america-literary-awards\/\">a number of high-profile authors withdrew their works from consideration or declined prizes<\/a> in protest of the organization\u2019s perceived bias towards Israel. The authors include Lorrie Moore, who just won the National Book Critics Circle\u2019s Fiction award for <em>I Am Homeless If This Is Not My Home<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A senior editor at NPR wrote a bad-faith, error-filled critique of the public radio outlet on Bari Weiss\u2019s blog. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/04\/09\/1243755769\/npr-journalist-uri-berliner-trust-diversity\">NPR responded, defending its hiring practices and its philosophy<\/a>. You can find many takedowns of Uri Berliner\u2019s original piece, but one fact that got me was that he accused NPR of downplaying or ignoring the lab-leak theory behind COVID-19\u2019s origins, even when the evidence in favor of a zoonotic spillover kept mounting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WFLA has the story of a young boy with autism who can no longer receive health services <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfla.com\/8-on-your-side\/just-help-me-get-my-kid-services-tampa-boy-with-autism-among-460k-florida-kids-kicked-off-medicaid\/\">because Florida kicked him off Medicaid<\/a>. We need more stories like this, showing everyday people getting badly hurt by state policies that cut funding for essential services like health care, education, and even school lunches for underprivileged people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A former youth minister at a Baptist church in Bixby, Oklahoma, <a href=\"https:\/\/tulsaworld.com\/news\/local\/crime-courts\/jenks-man-a-former-bixby-youth-minister-faces-child-sexual-exploitation-child-porn-charges\/article_ee08f1d6-f816-11ee-bcb3-5f2d4de690df.html\">has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor<\/a> as well as possession and distribution of child pornography. No drag queens were involved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chicago police killed Dexter Reed during a traffic stop where he fired first, injuring one officer, after which the cops fired 96 rounds in less than a minute. The <em>Sun-Times<\/em> reports that the five officers involved in the incident <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/police-reform\/dexter-reed-shooting\/2024\/04\/12\/chicago-police-officers-dexter-reed-shooting-complaints-traffic-stops\">have been investigated a total of 41 times since 2019<\/a>, and that the area where they stopped Reed has a disproportionate number of traffic stops. The cops have said they pulled Reed over because he wasn\u2019t wearing a seat belt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The brightest cosmic explosion scientists have ever seen has now led to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/science-environment-68787534\">new questions about how some of the universe\u2019s heaviest metals are formed<\/a>.
