Was the Sirotka trade during your time with the Jays? If so, what (if you can say) was the feeling within the organization about that, with regards to the actions of the CWS? Thanks.
Also, I kept meaning to ask, what are the rules regarding drafting college players? Do they have to be rising seniors?
The Sirotka deal was about a year before I got to Toronto. I got there for some of the bitterness, but all I got was one side of the story.
A college player can be drafted if he’s completed three years of eligibility or if he turns 21 within 45 days of the draft (so by July 20th or 21st this year). Bryce Stowell and Cole Figueroa are both draft-eligible as sophomores; Daniel Schlereth was a DE sophomore last year, but didn’t sign.
Keith, I was watching Bobby Jenks the other night, and one of the things I’ve noticed about him (aside from the fact that his fastball is at 92-94 rather than 96-99) is that his fastball is extremely straight and over the top. We all know how good his curveball is if he’s commanding it, but it worries me as a White Sox fan that his fastball is so straight. And at 92-94, major league hitters shouldn’t be having any trouble with it. Since Pierzynski doesn’t seem to call for Bobby’s breaking stuff until he gets to 2 strikes, this worries me even more.
If you were scouting Bobby Jenks today, would you say the same thing worries you about him?

However, with Carlos Delgado’s OBP against lefties at .246, is there anyone at all in the Met’s system that they could bring up to platoon at 1st or is the cupboard truly bare?
Phil, if I could possibly answer in stead of Keith (and admittedly, my answer won’t be nearly as good as his, but still), I would say that the Mets don’t have really any impact infielders that they could call up. The best scenario right now is to platoon Tatis at first (he really shouldn’t be playing the outfield right now anyway, he doesn’t look comfortable) and then work with Endy Chavez in left, Beltran in center, and Church in right when he comes back from his concussion. Of course, for right now, it seems like they’re going to stick with Easley platooning at first.
Just read on ESPN that the Mets may try to pickup Hatterberg. I guess there are worse ideas.
