Angry Royals fans.

A piece of paper! Somebody threw a piece of paper on me!

I don’t know what’s funnier – the fact that they think I haven’t heard of Daniel Cortes (if nothing else, I read my buddy Rany Jazayerli’s blog, and he just wrote a piece on Cortes), the fact that they think I’m a communist, or the fact that they think I’m a vegetarian who doesn’t eat steak (I do, it’s just never my first choice) or get enough protein (sushi?). These things entertain me immensely.

Comments

  1. There isn’t one part of that entire blog that makes any sense. It was entry after entry of you being a Communist who doesn’t eat steak or know who Daniel Cortes is. I’m wicked confused.

  2. Jim Callis loves Cortes. So he pumps him up constantly. And suddenly that makes him a Top 50 prospect. Get with the program.

  3. Getting perilously close to getting you accused of anti-Royals bias. Who knew that would be the people feeling aggrieved today?

  4. By the transitive property of non-steak eating commies, Keith Law is now a Buddhist? My head hurts.

  5. Well then, Prince Fielder is also a Buddhist. See, Keith, you and he have something in common (besides being powerful home run hitters, I mean).

  6. As a die hard Royals fan, I would like to say those people were all White Sox fans trying to make us look bad. That was a whole lot of DUMB. One of the guys who sits across the aisle from me at the Royals games had to be an active participant. Then again, being a Royals fan isn’t the smartest thing in the world, so I shouldn’t criticize. I just wish we had fans as funny as the Drunk Blue Jays fans.

  7. The saddest part of all this is that you mentioned Dan Cortes in your own review of prospects. They infer that they read “insider” stuff, but it appears it did not register in their long-term memory. Seriously, that is one shity website.

  8. It’s absolutely amazing how little of that thread made any sense whatsoever.

  9. Utterly. Insane. For more humor, check out the Rob and Rany thread they speak of in the postings.

  10. What’s so bad about communism?

  11. What’s wrong with not eating steak? Since when does that preference have anything to do with your status as an “American”? Weird.

  12. I’d say I weep for Royals fans, but I really don’t when they’re that stupid.

  13. I don’t know why those rabid meat-eaters take KLaw’s non-crush on Danny Cortes so personally. Jeez, have a boggs, fellas.

PS – Keith, I’m assuming you understood my “I hate….” intro to the question as a reference to last week’s chat, but apparently my countryman Ryan in Calgary did not.

  14. So you’re a communist, Keith? In that case, I have to ask what you think of my nominees for Mount Commie-more. So far I have these four:

    – Karl Marx
    – Vladimir Lenin
    – Fidel Castro
    – Mao Zedong

I’m open to suggestions, RedLaw. Stalin, Trotsky, Ho Chi Minh, Tim Robbins?

  15. I’m just wondering. How do you come across this?

  16. Marx
    Engels
    Lenin
    Guevara

  17. Mount Commie-more must include Paul Robeson.

  18. Keith, kind of off-topic, but what are your thoughts on Jonah Nickerson, the Oregon State alum in the Tigers organization? a 4/5 ceiling or more like a career minor leaguer?

  19. I’m a diehard Royals fan, but also an avid Klaw reader. I consider it my yin and yang. To the tools on the scout board, I’d be willing to bet that Klaw knows all about Cortes extended family and their potential prospects as well. I figure the guy that stole Burgos’ bling was one of these tools on the scout board as well. keep up the good work 🙂

Always remember, B is for Bandwagon!

  20. Hey Keith,
Why do people get peeved with you and your analysis? It’s an opinion. Shouldn’t they be peeved with management and ownership and their players for losing?
And why doesn’t anyone take the time to realize that these boards and projections are fluid snapshots. If I remember correctly, your 07 board is markedly different from your 08 board.

Finally, you ever think about teaching a grad level class? My buddy at Georgetown Business took a sports management class taught by former Texans GM Casserly. I’ve seen him on TV and I’d put money that you’re smarter than he is… plus, it was purely cases and Q&A. I’m sure Harvard would love you back…

    Q

  21. These meatheads must not be fans of your blog or they would have noticed you have two Kansas City related sites on your Blogroll. No biases against KC.

  22. Wait a second; a commie vegetarian stat-heavy baseball analyst… aren’t they confusing you with Rob Neyer?

  23. Well, they are KC fans, so I hadn’t expected much from them to begin with. But HOLY SHIT they are stupid!! And why would they bother attacking you personaly? I mean, it may be cheap to live in KC, but don’t these guys still have to have a job out there? Where do they get the time?

  24. And if you do have a bias against KC… SO F*****G what!? Read someone else’s blog di*****ds!

  25. I’ve only lived in KC for a few years, but based on what I’ve seen here so far, I am amazed that anyone cares enough about the team to have that much resentment. I guess this is what happens when the football team doesn’t win either.

  26. There are 4 pages of that?!?!?1?11 I barely got through the first one without tearing out my eyeballs.

Wait a minute, I have a friend who doesn’t eat steak. Is he in your Communist club Keith?

  27. wow that was a crazy thread. I just want to make a few points though.

    1. Do any of those people have any grasp on the english language?

    2. Keith its must be annoying/tiresme dealing with people who hateyou because of your analysis. I know there are a whole group of cubs fans that hate you because of your analysis of Matt Murton.

    3. Just because your ownership sucks is no reason to act a fool.

    4. Why do fans take eveything so personally? Don’t they realize that there is war, famine, and many other calamities more important in the world?

    5. Mount Commie-more Marx,Lenin, Stalin(even though he deviated greatly from marxism),and Castro-mainly because he ruled for like 60 years much longer than anyone else.

  28. Hey guys,

As one of the members of the Scout board (not ChiTownRoyalsFan, sorry), I am not here to apologize. Still, I think you’re probably misrepresenting what’s going on on our board. The thread is a continuation of a running joke that started after Keith’s last chat, in which he ignored all of our questions about Cortes.

We know you know all about Cortes, Keith. And that you’re not a communist. We respectfully disagree with your decision not to eat steak.

And we don’t appreciate all the dickheads on this site overreacting about what is essentially a running joke. And for all of you insulting our fanhood, or our team, or our intelligence, I encourage you to read ANY of the other posts on Royals Corner, which happens to be one of the best and most involved Royals’ communities on the interweb.

    Thank you.

  29. Austin:

I think it takes a lot of nerve for you to come over here and call my readers “dickheads” for reacting to a discussion where one of your buddies says I deserve to have my kneecaps shattered.

Now I see that another one of your friends has called me a “nerd/douschebag/loser” and libelled me by saying that I was “fired in Toronto.”

We didn’t insult your intelligence. Your fellow posters did it to themselves.

    Keith

  30. OH MY GOD!!!!!! That was me that wrote you those questions! AWESOME!

  31. Also, I didn’t imply that you are a vegetarian, just that people that don’t eat steak are communists and unamerican. AWESOME!

  32. Patrick, are you really proud about some of your comments? And do you really equate ones taste buds with their views of economic systems? I, for one, stand by my earlier position that that is a shity website. And for the record, Keith has been anti Jim Rice for the Hall-Of-Fame. Not exactly a pro Red Sox opinion.

  33. Keith:

Sorry for the name calling, that was uncalled for.

And these people aren’t exactly my “buddies,” considering that I don’t know any of these people in real life.

Anyway, I stand by what I said. I believe everything said in that thread was a joke, and I don’t think there’s any actual malice towards you by the members of our community.

Furthermore, while I applaud your maturity in handling this situation (i.e., taking it in stride, saying that you find it “funny”), some of your readers have responded quite rudely (i.e., brocmiller). To your readers: insulting the pride and intelligence of Royals fans is NOT the solution to any perceived problem.

  34. Wow, why are these guys so concerned about you? Even if it is a running joke, it’s a very bizarre one. I’d say it’s borderline creepy.

  35. If by borderline you mean “incredibly.”

    Meh, new topic…
