The Mailbag of Malcontent, Vol. 7.

Frank D is back!

(253) Frank D (REDACTED) 2008-02-18 11:17:00.0
Toronto misses you. The floors need sweeping. Eric Bedard is a stud. He’s proven that. Prospects are just that. When you can get a young lefty with his stuff, you move heaven and hell to get him. You wouldn’t know that being a total dumbass. laughing at you every time, Frank D. Btw, please go back to obscurity.

I love the fact that my work drives him up the wall. By the way, he still hasn’t realized that he has my email address – as always, this came through my ESPN mailbag.

  1. Did not know where to place this….Its quite possibly the best respone ever…

Jason (Denver): Even though you seem to be a Rockies hater, what do you think about Greg Reynolds?

Keith Law: Jason, you must be new here. I hate EVERYBODY. I hate all 30 teams. I hate their GMs, managers, and clubhouse boys. I hate all prospects, I hate both sides of every trade ever made, I hate any contract signed for over the minimum. I hate fans of all thirty teams. And most of all, I hate YOU. Greg Reynolds is a 4th starter in the big leagues, but that’s based on what I saw of him as an amateur and I’d like to see him healthy as a pro.

Was in Orlando for the weekend and did not get around to the EspLog. But again …Good Job

  2. I like to think that “Frank D” is just the nom de plume of a REALLY drunk Bill Bevasi.

  3. Heya Keith.

Regarding your chats (and other content at ESPN): It’s pretty common for corporate firewalls (like SonicWall) to block any web address that uses the word ‘proxy’. This, of course, keeps many people from properly utilizing their work hours by reading your excellent chats, since they bounce to a proxy address (where they remain, even after being archived). If you would be so kind, please pass that on to the eggheads at ESPN. Changing a DNS entry isn’t exactly an Augean Stables scenario, and it would please me and many other Insider subscribers immensely not to be restricted from your chats over something as silly as the need to use ‘proxy’ in a web address.

    Toodles.

  4. Hey Keith, just wondering if you’ve seen this site, http://letterstokeithlaw.blogspot.com/. It’s a whole hate site devoted to you.

  5. I find it funny that these guys think a name like Bedard or Santana comes without its own risk of not panning out. That the Mets traded for 6 years of Santana when in fact they got one half price (arguably they paid a premium on top with his contract). The concept of opportunity cost escapes them, that the prospects and 22 million a year would otherwise be wasted to no end if they had not done this deal! That Santana/Bedard et al will pan out completely.

Any recession or flat lining of revenue would be interesting to some teams. Indeed where the Jays, WSox and Astros will get players from that are not expensive (and/or good!) in 2 or 3 years will be interesting even without the treadmill of income stopping.

  6. Dan – yeah, of course, Deadspin linked to it when it was still live (it’s been dead almost a year now). Very disappointing stuff, no relevance to me or parody content at all.

  7. Well, I do agree with him on one point. Eric Bedard is a stud.

  8. Did Bedard lose the “k” in his first name when he moved to the west coast?

  9. No, it was a typo.

  10. Keith, I know this is off topic (I wonder if Frank D knows about this blog), but I was wondering if you knew of any players on the Purdue baseball team that would be worth seeing live. Thanks.

  11. Yes, RHP Josh Lindblom should go in the top 2-3 rounds with a good spring.

  12. I like how he capitalized prospects.

  13. A.J. Pierzynski was a STUD, and prospects are just that: prospects. That’s why you move heaven and hell to get him, even if it means giving up Francisco Liriano, Boof Bonser, Joe Nathan and subsequently going down in history as the victim of one of the more lopsided trades ever.

Don’t you know that you’re supposed to give up as many prospects as possible for any and every “stud” in the major leagues? Why are you so stupid, Keith?

    *siiiiiiiigh*

  14. Are you sure it’s not that Frank guy Fox was shoving down our throats on every commercial break during the playoffs, doing his impression of a standard ESPN.com forum commenter?

  15. Well he capitilized prospects because no sentence is allowed to be more than 5 or 6 words long.

  16. Frank and I have been emailing back and forth for the last ~36 hours, incidentally. I think I’m driving him insane. He’s called me “arrogant,” “dumb,” a “dumbass,” and “immature.” He says I must not have any other readers if I respond to him. But the best part is his look into my future:

You are the writer, I am the reader. The reader doesn’t need to prove to you anything. It’s your job to prove it to us. Those who do have long careers. Those who don’t, go from job to job until they wind up working for some local rag covering HS sports.

Then again, I guess I kind of cover HS sports now, don’t I?
